NFL Announces Punishment for Ravens Wide Receiver in Week 9 Win Over Dolphins

The Baltimore Ravens got Lamar Jackson back from a hamstring injury in Week 9, and the result for the team was a blowout 28-6 victory over the hapless Miami Dolphins. It was the second straight win for the Ravens, and after a miserable start to the 2025 campaign, the team finally has some positive momentum heading into Week 10.

Before flipping the page to the upcoming slate of games on Sunday, though, the NFL went back and handed out some punishments for players for their actions in Week 9. One of the players who caught the ire of the league was Baltimore’s wide receiver Rashod Bateman, as he picked up a hefty fine for a penalty he earned in the team’s most recent win.

Ravens’ Wide Receiver Rashod Bateman Gets Fined by the NFL

Baltimore entered the season with expectations of a Super Bowl run. Instead, the team crawled out to a 1-5 start, and its playoff hopes were hanging on by a thread heading into Week 8. After earning the start under center over Cooper Rush, Tyler Huntley proceeded to lead the team to a surprising upset victory over the Chicago Bears, and just days later, Jackson’s return catapulted the team to their aforementioned win over the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.

With Jackson back in action, it feels like anything is possible for the Ravens right now. They are still just two games behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, but with both of their games against the Steelers still on their schedule, Baltimore controls its own destiny when it comes to potentially winning their division.

Picking up a win over Miami was a big step in the right direction, but not everything from this win was positive. Along the way, Bateman was assessed a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after he directed some harsh words towards an official. The NFL didn’t let him off the hook there, though, as he earned himself a $25,154 fine for his actions as well.

“The NFL fined Ravens WR Rashod Bateman $25,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct — verbal abuse of an official last week. Bateman was also flagged,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

Bateman likely won’t be too happy to have earned this fine, but on the bright side, at least it came in a victory. With Jackson back under center, Bateman will be looking to reemerge as a key contributor on offense, as he has just 15 catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns this season. Getting him going in the passing attack will surely help Baltimore in its quest to make a late-season playoff push.

Things are going to get a bit more difficult for the Ravens in Week 10, as they draw a tough matchup against a Minnesota Vikings team that is fresh off a big upset win over the Detroit Lions. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, and in order for Baltimore to keep its playoff hopes alive, it will need to find a way to come out on top in this one.
