The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a Week 11 loss to the Chicago Bears, and they are looking to put that defeat behind them. However, before the team takes on another NFC North opponent, the Green Bay Packers, one Minnesota player will be feeling a little light in his wallet.
On November 22, the NFL released its Gameday Accountability report for Week 11, and Vikings’ Jalen Redmond appeared on the list of fines.
As part of the fine process, players are notified of any violations and may appeal. Cases are heard by appeals officers, former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL and NFLPA. Moreover, their decisions are final and binding.
When it comes to Redmond, the Vikings’ defensive lineman received a fine for a play deemed to be unnecessary roughness in the third quarter at the 11:20 minute mark. The report notes that Redmond grabbed the facemask of an opposing player, and as a result, the NFL is fining him $5,333.
Vikings Offense Needs to Help Their Defense
Despite this two-game losing streak and Redmond’s fine, the Minnesota defense have kept the team in games. Nonetheless, at some point, they can’t keep the opposition off the board while the offense goes through its struggles.
If the Vikings want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, their offense will need to step up on the road against the Packers. Ahead of the road game in Green Bay, leaders on the offense are doing their part to help J.J. McCarthy overcome his struggles.
“They’ve been awesome, ” McCarthy said about his pass-catchers while talking to reporters on November 19. “I can’t thank them enough for the patience level and the leadership out of every person in that group, them pushing me every single day to be the best version of myself and doing it in ways that a lot of people don’t see. So, you know, I just love them with all my heart and [ I am] so grateful for every single one of those boys.”
Justin Jefferson Gets Major Praise Before Packers Game
Despite the offense’s struggles, the Packers won’t be taking key players like Justin Jefferson lightly, as Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t hold back when it came to facing one of the best receivers in the NFL.
“He is as good as they get in this business,” LaFleur told reporters on November 21. “I just love how the guy competes with the football, without the football. [As a ] matter of fact, there was a clip that we showed where you can see the urgency [with] which he plays. He catches the ball, he goes to the ground, nobody touches him, he gets up, and he gets 15 yards after going to the ground.
“He can run every route. There’s not a route he can’t run. He can run short routes, the choice routes. He can go deep on you. He’s got tremendous ball skills. I just think there’s a lot to like about his game.”
