There aren’t many, if any, media members who are more tuned into what’s happening around the NFL right now than ESPN’s Peter Schrager, who the Worldwide Leader poached from the NFL Network this offseason.
So when Schrager talks, we should all listen, and he had some interesting insights about the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott.
The Cowboys are 4-5-1 headed into a Week 12 home showdown against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It’s the first of 3 games that should determine what kind of team the Cowboys are this season and followed by a Thanksgiving Day home game agains the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13 and a Thursday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions in Week 14.
The Cowboys are 4-5-1 coming off a win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football in Week 11.
“This is a legacy defining 3 weeks for Dak Prescott,” Schrager said on Wednesday, December 20. “Look what his team just did to try and make a playoff run this season … what happens in these next 3 games is going to pretty much show us what kind of team the Cowboys are and for Prescott, it’s going to show a lot of people what kind of quarterback he is.”
Cowboys Wins Against NFL’s Worst Teams
The Cowboys’ 4 wins have come against at least 3 of the 4 worst teams in the NFL and another team who could very well end up with a Top 5 pick in the 2026 NFL draft; the New York Giants (2-9), New York Jets (2-8), Raiders (2-8) and Washington Commanders (3-8).
The pressure he faces stems not only from his playoff failures but from his profile and contract. Prescott is the highest paid player in NFL history on a 4-year, $240 million contract and plays the most high profile position on the most visible team and is 2-5 in the postseason through his first 9 NFL seasons.
The playoff struggles are why not everyone agreed with Schrager’s take on Prescott.
“Dak could throw for 5 TDs each game and go 3-0 and none of it matters if they miss the playoffs,” Locked on Cowboys’ Marcus Mosher wrote on his official X account. “No one is changing their opinion on Dak Prescott because of his regular season play.”
“Dak Prescott gets a lot of hate but the reality is that he is a very good QB and one of the better QBs to play for a historical team,” Cowboys Buzz wrote on its official X account. “He now leads 3+ touchdowns games and will break the all time passing yards leader this week as well. He will end his career with every Dallas Cowboys QB record there is. Just need a SB win to top of a potential HOF career.”
