As one of the greatest wide receivers of all-time, Randy Moss knows a thing or two about what it takes to be great.
So when he was asked where Tyreek Hill lands on the list of all-time greats, Moss pulled no punches.
Moss scorched the Miami Dolphins star wideout by saying he is nowhere near the list of best players or wideouts in the history of the game during a recent interview with the South-Florida Sun Sentinel.
Hill does have a Super Bowl ring, which Moss does not, since the Dolphins wideout claimed the title as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
But Moss, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, boasts far-superior stats to Hill — though in fairness, Moss played 14 seasons and Hill is about to enter his 10th.
What Did Randy Moss Say About Tyreek Hill?
Moss was asked by the South-Florida Sun Sentinel where Hill ranks on the list of all-time great wideouts. Though he offered a slight compliment for where Hill ranks among wideouts of today, Moss took down the five-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler.
“Heâs nowhere all-time,” Moss told Sun-Sentinel. “Where is he at in todayâs game? Tyreek Hill is probably top five. I put him top five.”
Moss was in South Florida stumping his new restaurant when he was asked about Hill, who had 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023, each of which led the league.
To Hill’s credit, he had posted consecutive 1,700-plus-yard seasons as a member of the Dolphins in 2022 and 2023. But he regressed in 2024, due to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s struggles and injuries, since Hill had just 959 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games — his 56.4 yards per game was the fewest of Hill’s career.
Hill has spent this off-season as the subject of trade rumors, since he will have cap numbers of $27.6 million and $51.9 million over the next two seasons, per Over The Cap.
Moss, who played for the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots before bouncing between four clubs over his final two seasons, did author in an era of big, physical receivers when he was picked by the Vikings from Marshall in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft.
Still, Hill plays an almost entirely different game than Moss, which consists of precision route running and speed — which earned him the nickname “Cheetah.”
But to Moss’ point, Hill is tied for 30th on the list of receiving touchdowns (82) — he’s fifth among active receivers — and is 42nd on the all-time yards list (11,098) and seventh among receivers still playing.
Who Does Randy Moss Think Is The Best Wide Receiver Of All Time?
If Hill is not high on the list of all-time great wide receivers, who does Moss think should top the list?
“Is that a real question? Are you being political or are you being real?” Moss asked the Sun-Sentinel reporter. “Because if weâre talking political, weâll say Jerry Rice. If weâre talking real football … itâs me.”
Moss ranks fourth, behind Rice, Larry Fitzgerald and Terrell Owens, on the list of receiving yards (15,292), is 17th in receptions (982) and is second in receiving touchdowns (156) — 42 behind Rice on the all-time list.
