Packers’ Josh Jacobs Reveals Concerning Injury Details Before Vikings Clash

Heading into Sunday’s Week 12 clash against the division rival Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers are dealing with several injuries to key players.

The team’s injury report listed 13 players as questionable for Sunday’s matchup including wide receivers Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson, offensive tackle Zach Tom, defensive ends Micah Parsons, Lukas Van Ness, and Karl Brooks, linebackers Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper, cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Keisean Nixon, and safety Jacon Bullard.

Another player who’s status is in question is star running back Josh Jacobs, who practiced on Thursday to the surprise of some after suffering a knee injury last week against the New York Giants.

Jacobs Details Severity of His Knee Injury

In last week’s win over the Giants, Jacobs rushed seven times for 40 yards before exiting and giving way to Emanuel Wilson, who logged 11 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown in relief.

The 27-year-old RB was evaluated in the blue medical tent after his left knee made hard impact with the turf at MetLife Stadium. He returned for a few more plays before heading to the locker room for further evaluation and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

While it’s still not known whether Jacobs will play against Minnesota, the former first-round pick did update reporters on Thursday about how badly his knee is still injured.

“Josh Jacobs says 60% of his knee swelling is gone,” The Athletics’s Matt Schneidman wrote on X. “Now about getting range of motion back. Said he’s truly day-to-day and wants to play Sunday. Got hurt on second play of game and left in second quarter when he felt he was hurting the team.”

Given his self-evaluation, it’s possible Jacobs still plays against the Vikings, but head coach Matt LaFleur will likely take a cautious approach to ramping up his workload.

If Jacobs does miss Sunday’s game, or he’s used in a conservative capacity, Wilson will likely get the bulk of Green Bay’s carries with Chris Brooks backing him up.

Wilson has 220 yards and a touchdown on 53 carries this season.

Packers Got Lucky Considering the Alternative

When Jacobs left the Giants game, social media was rampant with speculation Jacobs was going to miss at least a few weeks of action.

In fact, sports medicine physician and Injury Expertz CEO Jesse Morse believed that Jacobs suffered a PCL injury that could’ve potentially sidelined him for up to a month.

“Left knee sprain, likely PCL,” Morse wrote on X. “You can see him land on a flexed knee here. These lead to a lot of instability in the knee and players have trouble stopping and starting.

“Same injury that sidelined Brock Bowers and Ricky Pearsall this year. If mild he could return in Week 12, but likely to miss 1-4+ weeks. Pearsall missed 6 games with a grade 2 PCL sprain.”

Had Jacobs missed up to four weeks, the Packers would’ve had to fight for their playoff lives with tough matchups against the Detroit Lions (Nov. 27), Chicago Bears (Dec. 7), and Denver Broncos (Dec. 14) without their star running back.
