It was not an easy injury to watch in the fourth quarter of Thanksgiving’s thrilling 31-24 Packers win over the Lions. Fourth-year defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt had his leg rolled on, an injury that left him wincing in pain and led to him being carted off Ford Field in Detroit.
The Packers did not have details on the Wyatt leg injury, but there was no doubt it was severe, and somewhat tempered the jubilation around the team after what was a critical win here in the 2025 season–one that could propel the Packers to the NFC North title.
The defense did well to slow down a potent Lions offense, one that was still dangerous even after an injury to star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Key to that was, of course, pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who had 2.5 sacks and now was 5.5 sacks in his last three games for a Green Bay defense that appears to have gotten itself back on track.
Micah Parsons: ‘It’s Going to Be Challenging’
After the game, Parsons was relieved, with the Packers now at 8-3-1 and back in control of their own destiny, with two games against the 8-3 Bears still to play in the division. But he was also very concerned with Wyatt, a former first-round pick who was finally carrying his weight on the Packers’ defensive front this season.
Wyatt has started nine games this year, and missed two with a knee injury.
Parsons got emotional when talking about the Wyatt injury: “I didn’t realize what happened until I got to the locker room. I am obviously praying for him. You guys see the difference he makes when he got back out in the field. I mean, he’s a player you can’t replace. We’re gonna have to ask a lot of young guys to step up.
“It’s going be challenging but we’re gonna have to really dial into our details and our fundamentals and try to replace someone that’s unreplaceable. That’s the reality.”
Packers Could Still Take Care of Wyatt, Parsons Hint
Parsons is also keenly aware of the NFL as a business, and he knows that Wyatt is heading into a critical offseason. The Packers picked up his fifth-year option, but there is a chance that the team could get ahead of any free-agency issues and sign him to an extension in addition to the options year.
“I am going to pray for him,” Parsons said. “And I still hope he gets everything he deserves in the offseason.”
Packers Win Is ‘Bittersweet’
Speaking about Wyatt after the game, too, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said the entire locker room was weighed down by the Wyatt news.
“It doesn’t look good, guys,” LaFleur said. “I’m sick for him. I am sick for us. That’s a critical loss for our football team, for our defense. And I can’t say enough good things about him, watching him mature not only as a football player, but as a person. I have got a lot of love for Devonte Wyatt, and the whole locker room does. It’s a little bittersweet.”
