Packers Predicted To Sign All-Pro, Reunite With ‘Close Friend’

The Green Bay Packers are heading into the playoffs as the seventh seed for the third straight year, and will await Week 18’s results to see if they travel to Philadelphia or Chicago for the Wild Card round.

Although the Packers are expected to rest key players in what is effectively a meaningless final game against the Minnesota Vikings, there is one position that the team may even struggle to field without their starters on Sunday – cornerback.

With the very surprising move coming on December 30th, which saw the Dallas Cowboys part ways with former All-Pro cornerback, Trevon Diggs, many have been musing that the Packers could be a top candidate to make a move for the now free agent.

“Trevon Diggs has been a different person and player ever since he got his new contract. His play dropped off and his attitude was awful. This has been a LONG time coming. Thanks for 2021. That was fun.” Riley Gates of On 3 Sports and 5 Goats posted on X, before adding a sly prediction for his next destination.

“Enjoy him next season, Packers fans.”

The Packers Make Sense As A Landing Spot For Trevon Diggs

Outside of the seemingly remote outcome that a team decides to pick up the remainder of Diggs’ 5 year, $97 million deal signed ahead of the 2023 season, the former second round pick will have his choice of next destination.

Many have tied Diggs to Green Bay not just on account of their need at the cornerback position, but the relationship between him and former Cowboys edge rusher, Micah Parsons, who was traded to the Packers back in August.

“Trevon Diggs release reaction: Possible reunion with Micah Parsons in Green Bay?”, was posted by SportsDay Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys page for the fantasy sports site, Sleeper, also posted a video of Diggs embracing Parsons, suggesting that a reunion could be in store.

The Packers Need Help At Cornerback After New Injuries

The team released All-Pro, Jaire Alexander back in June, with free agent acquisition, Nate Hobbs, being looked at to be his eventual replacement on the boundary. Hobbs struggled early on in the year and was eventually replaced with 2023 seventh round pick, Carrington Valentine – who starts alongside Keisean Nixon on the perimeter.

The pair have played well, but it would be hard to contend that either is a bona fide lockdown corner, who can go toe-to-toe with the league’s best wide receivers.

And over the past few days, the Packers suffered injuries to their two backup corners, Kamal Hadden and Hobbs. Hadden suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, whilst Hobbs was forced out mid-way through the game with a knee injury. There has been no clear update on his injury status as of Tuesday.

Perhaps even without Hobbs and Hadden’s injuries, the Packers could be tempted to make a move for Diggs, having seen Valentine’s play start hit a slight downturn over the past couple of weeks.

Although the former Cowboy is not the player that saw him make successive Pro Bowls in 2021 and 2022, he is still just 27 years old and remains an ultra-high ceiling prospect that could add some much needed experience and ability to Green Bay’s secondary as they once again attempt to make a serious playoff run.
