Despite being sidelined, Will Campbell is making sure he’s keeping up with appearances, and that includes at the Boston Celtics game on Friday night.
Every week, the offensive linemen have a dinner together, and ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that this week’s was going to take place at TD Garden as the Celtics hosted the Miami Heat. As expected, Campbell was there and proceeded to steal the show when the players were shown on the Jumbotron.
The Boston Herald’s Zack Cox shared photos on X, formerly known as Twitter, of Campbell chugging a beer while at the game. And he just so happened to be shirtless while doing it.
Plus, it’s worth noting that quarterback Drake Maye joined the offensive lineman for this week’s dinner.
It’s no surprise that the rookie has become a fan-favorite in New England.
Fans React To Will Campbell’s Shirtless Display At Celtics Game
“Put Will Campbell in the Patriots Hall of Fame already,” one fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Imagine that there were actually people who didn’t want to draft Will Campbell. That’s my left tackle,” another person wrote.
“Mike Vrabel drafting Will Campbell 4th overall in the face of so many fans and media members telling him not to will go down as one of the best moves of Vrabel’s Patriots tenure Big Country’s built for Boston,” someone commented.

The Patriots placed Campbell on injured reserve after the starting left tackle suffered a knee injury in the team’s Week 12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
While it’s been described as a “very significant injury” by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer on NBC Sports Boston’s pregame coverage, the team is preparing for him to return for the postseason.
So what was the exact injury?
“He has a Grade 3 MCL sprain,” Breer said. “That essentially means his MCL is torn. It’s a four-to-six week injury.”
“One of the reasons they decided to put him on injured reserve was actually to protect him from himself,” Breer added. “They felt like, because of who he is, how tough he is, the sort of competitor he is, that he would push to get back earlier than that. This puts a governor on it. This forces him to go through a full recovery.”
Campbell is eligible to be activated ahead of the team’s final regular season game against the Miami Dolphins.
“They’re going to try to get him back for the last game of the regular season,” Breer said. “Even that may be pushing it a little bit. This is not a minor injury, though. This is an MCL tear, a Grade 3 MCL sprain, which again necessitates a four-to-six-week recovery.”
Campbell has remained around the facility and with the team as he rehabs in an effort to return as soon as possible.
“I just think it’s one of those where you have to be careful about guys pushing it,” Breer explained. “It’s the type of injury that you can aggravate, and you can make worse by playing on it. And there are a lot of examples of guys, especially in a position like Will Campbell’s, trying to play through these sorts of things. So I think in a certain way, the Patriots put him on IR, trying to look out for him and trying to make sure that he does go through as full a recovery as you can in season.”
