Pistons Land More Injury News After Cade Cunningham Update

As the Detroit Pistons prepare for their battle against the Orlando Magic on Monday (April 6), the team generated plenty of buzz due to their injury report.

Cade Cunningham was upgraded on the injury report. Since the two-time All-Star’s status will be all of the talk surrounding the Pistons as they gear up for the playoffs, that was the big story on Monday afternoon

However, Cunningham wasn’t the only upgrade. The veteran center Isaiah Stewart was moved to doubtful on the injury report as well. That suggests the defensive standout could be on his way to returning before the playoffs. A sneaky great situation for Detroit.

What Happened To Isaiah Stewart?

The Pistons haven’t had Stewart on the court since their March 13 matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.

At the time, Stewart was playing in his seventh game since returning from a league-issued suspension for fighting.

Stewart suffered a calf injury amid his 20-minute showing against the Memphis Grizzlies. At the time, he went 5-10 from the field to score 10 points, while coming down with four rebounds and blocking one shot.

Since getting ruled out on March 15 against the Toronto Raptors, Stewart has missed the last 12 games for the Pistons. There’s a chance he could return on April 6 against the Magic, but it’s unlikely. The upgrade on the injury report is just a teaser for Stewart’s eventual return to action.

Playoff Basketball Is Coming For The Pistons

Last season marked the first opportunity for Stewart to be a part of playoff basketball.

After appearing in 72 games, coming off the bench for all but four games, Stewart looked forward to battling against the New York Knicks. Unfortunately, he got injured in Game 1. The standout center missed the final five games of the series.

This year, the Pistons are back in the NBA Playoffs. Stewart is on the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA Play-In Tournament will determine Detroit’s first-round opponent. The Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic, and the Miami Heat are all options.

For the time being, the Pistons simply have to focus on remaining as healthy as possible. The Magic will serve as one of four games left for Detroit this week. The rest of the week includes games against the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and the Indiana Pacers.

Soon, Stewart could see his return.
