Player Who Sacked Giants’ Jaxson Dart Facing NFL Punishment Decision

The New York Giants suffered their fourth consecutive loss on Sunday, November 9, falling to the Chicago Bears in a 24-20 final score, which solidified their spot at the bottom of the NFC East. Now, the Giants have a 2-8 record, and they’re hoping to turn it around by getting the best of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, November 16.

During the game, New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was forced to leave the game early due to a concussion, but he still completed 19-of-29 passes for 242 yards, adding an additional 66 yards and two scores on the ground, according to research from the NFL. But, due to his injury, Dart will be sidelined for Sunday’s game against the Packers, and Jameis Winston will get the start.

There was a moment during the game that obviously caught the attention of the NFL. In that moment, Chicago Bears defensive tackle Andrew Billings grabbed hold of Dart’s facemask, and even though the team was hit with a flag for the incident, it may go beyond that punishment.

So, during the game, with 7:59 left in the second quarter, on first down, Billings grabbed onto Dart’s facemask and almost pulled of his helmet off before sacking him. Billings was flagged for roughing the passer after the Dart incident, which gave the New York Giants 15 new yards and a first down.

But, he may face further punishment from the NFL. The NFL routinely sends out fines to players for roughing the passer. Those fines go up to $17,389 for a first roughing-the-passer violation and $23,186 for a second.

Each week during the regular season, the NFL announces penalizes for players for actions taken during the previous week’s games. The NFL notes on their website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity” and that “the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures.”

According to the NFL, the funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.” The NFL also states that “league staff members examine the plays identified as having potential infractions to determine whether there is cause for additional review.”

New York Giants QB Jameis Winston Gets the Start Against the Green Bay Packers

So, Dart is sidelined for this game, and Winston is getting his first start of the 2025-26 season. NFL analyst Marc Ross thinks that Winston will get the win for the Giants.

“No Jaxson Dart, no problem,” Ross states. “Winston is getting his first start this season, and you know it will be a roller coaster ride — remember last year’s outing against Denver, when he threw for 497 yards, four touchdowns and three INTs for the Browns?”

He adds, “Don’t worry; the Giants will get good Jameis on Sunday. He’ll put up 300 passing yards and two touchdowns against Green Bay’s seventh-ranked scoring defense, which just stifled the Eagles.” In the end, he believes the Giants will get their first in far too long and that the Packers will lose their third straight game.
