Police Docs Reveal Disturbing Claims Against Ex-Bulls Guard

Former Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley, a proud South Side native who once fulfilled a lifelong dream by playing for his hometown team, is facing disturbing allegations after a Texas probable-cause affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports accused him of choking and punching his younger sister during a late-night confrontation. Beverley has denied the claims.

The 37-year-old was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with third-degree felony assault involving a family or household member by impeding breath — one of the most serious domestic-violence charges under Texas law.

Affidavit Accuses Beverley of Choking, Slamming Sister

According to the affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports, the incident occurred on Nov. 14 when Beverley’s sister left the family home without permission to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. When she returned, her mother instructed her to call the boyfriend back — and then contacted Beverley.

The affidavit states that upon arriving, Beverley confronted his sister and allegedly grabbed her by the neck with both hands, lifting her off the ground. She told officers she felt pain and believed she was losing oxygen.

The report alleges Beverley then dragged her out of the bedroom by her neck, slammed her body into the walls in a hallway, placed her on the couch, and punched her in the left eye. She also claimed he threatened her, saying he would be the “family relative to kill her.”

Police noted visible marks on her neck and petechiae — burst blood vessels indicating pressure — in her eyes.

Beverley was arrested and booked into Fort Bend County Jail.

‘Don’t Believe Everything You See Online’

After posting $40,000 bail, Beverley pushed back on the allegations on X (formerly Twitter).

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote.

His attorney later released a statement defending him and suggesting the situation had been exaggerated:

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister — a minor,” the statement read. “When he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he reacted as any protective brother would. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described. We look forward to addressing this in court.”

A court date has not yet been publicized.

Beverley Remains a Strong Chicago Figure

Beverley, raised in West Garfield Park, starred at Marshall High School before his rise to the NBA. His return to the Bulls in 2023 was a major hometown storyline. During his introductory press conference, Beverley reflected proudly on coming home.

“I’m really excited,” Beverley told local reporters at the time. “You can tell by the energy I have and the joy… I’m a born leader. I run through a wall for any team I play for — but this is Chicago, where I’m from, so I don’t know what might happen. I’m super stoked.”

But his stint with the Bulls in 2022–23 was short-lived, averaging 5.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals in just over 22 games.

But his defensive spark and emotional presence helped Chicago’s push into the Play-In Tournament alongside DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine.

Recent Controversies Follow Ex-Bulls Guard

The felony charge is the latest in a series of incidents involving the veteran guard.

Beverley has not appeared in an NBA game since May 2024, when — as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks — he threw a basketball into the stands during a playoff game, striking a fan. He received a four-game NBA suspension that he has not yet served and he also faced a civil lawsuit.

Earlier this month, Beverley also drew backlash for crude comments about Klay Thompson’s girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, prompting Thompson to publicly condemn the remarks.

Beverley was a three-time NBA All-Defensive guard who also played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Philadelphia 76ers.
