Chelsea were the underdogs ahead of Sunday’s Club World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey but stunned the Champions League holders with a brilliant first-half display.
Cole Palmer scored two goals in eight minutes before new Chelsea signing Pedro put the Premier League club 3-0 up on the stroke of half-time.
Chelsea did a superb job at preventing PSG from getting back into the final after the break in what former Premier League winger Andros Townsend described as a ‘tactical masterclass’ from Enzo Maresca.

Joao Neves was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair and several of his teammates risked red cards with rash challenges.
The teams continued to clash after the full-time whistle was blown with Pedro, who only joined Chelsea two weeks ago, clashing with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Enrique was also involved in the on-pitch brawl and appeared to strike Pedro, sending Chelsea’s £60m summer signing falling to the floor.

PSG were the firm favourites ahead of the Club World Cup final after winning their first Champions League last season.

‘It’s a great feeling,’ Palmer said after Chelsea’s Club World Cup victory. ‘Even better because everyone doubted us before the game, we knew that.
‘The gaffer put a great gameplan out. He knew where the space was going to be. He tried to free me up as much as possible and I just had to repay him and score some goals.
‘[Maresca] is building something special, something important. Everyone has talked a lot of s*** about us all season but I feel like we are going in the right direction.’
Maresca, meanwhile, said: ‘I have no words for the players. They all deserve this and it’s a good moment.
‘For me, we won the game in the first 10 minutes. We set the tempo and we were very good at pressing them. The conditions made it hard to keep going but the boys did well.
‘I am very excited [about the future] but I’m more excited that we have three weeks off.’
