Defensive end Maxx Crosby seemed like the only player to show up for the Las Vegas Raiders in the 31-0 Week 15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Crosby is always giving maximum effort, but he had a little extra motivation.
He decided to wear pink cleats in honor of his daughter against the Eagles, and he figured he’d probably get fined for it, as they weren’t approved by the NFL. However, the league took it a step further, and Crosby was very annoyed about it.
“The NFL was crying and forced me to take my shoes off,” Crosby said on “The Rush.”Represent my daughter out there, and it says Ella on the front of them. … Like I’m wearing them, regardless what they say, and I’ll take the fine, I don’t care.
“And I noticed my guy Nico, one of our equipment guys, is on the sideline, and he’s literally holding the white cleats under his arm. … I was like, (expletive). I know they (expletive) called about my cleats. I went up to Nico, and I’m like, ‘What? They are (expletive) about it?’ He said, ‘Well, they are going to take you out of the game if you don’t change your cleats.‘”
Crosby also pointed out that he was able to sack Jalen Hurts while wearing the cleats before he had to change them.
Raiders Told Not to Trade Crosby
The Raiders have Crosby under contract for the foreseeable future, but there’s already chatter about how the team could trade him this offseason. Las Vegas is in a rebuild and needs to accumlate young talent.
However, rebuilds can be a lot shorter if the team finds a quarterback. If the Raiders get the No. 1 pick and land a franchise quarterback, they might be a lot more competitive next season.
Former Raiders offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy doesn’t think the team should even consider trading Crosby.
“I have always been impressed with the Condor [Crosby],” Kennedy said on “Raiders Roundtable.” “To see him get in there and get a sack, I am happy for him. This young man has worked his butt off and continues to work his butt off to be a true inspiration. When it comes to times like this, where you have a bunch of pundits out there saying, ‘Well, you need to trade Maxx, get rid of Maxx to get more draft choices’
“No, no, no. We have to stop letting stars go and find ways to keep them. I am sure Maxx, like any other player in that locker room, does not like losing and wants to try to change it around. He is doing everything he can. He is trying to lead by example.”
Will Crosby Want to Stay in Las Vegas?
The Raiders may decide they don’t want to trade Crosby, but that doesn’t mean he won’t want to move on. The team has made the playoffs just once in his tenure and they keep cycling through new head coaches.
He might be fed up with the constant turnover in the coaching staff. He may never directly request a trade, but it’s easy to see him letting the team know that he’d be open to one if they’re considering moving him.
