Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith has managed to earn himself quite a bit of money during his revitalized NFL career after throwing for over 12,000 yards and 71 touchdowns during his three years as the starting quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks.
Yet, Smith’s monetary earnings were passionately mentioned by the Raiders QB during an intense trash-talking exchange at a football event.
Raiders QB Geno Smith Exchanges Passionate Verbal Jabs at Football Event
When the Las Vegas Raiders rewarded veteran quarterback Geno Smith with a handsome eight-figure contract this offseason, they likely didn’t think it could become the rallying cry of their new franchise quarterback during an intense verbal exchange at a youth football event. Yet, Smith spammed how he gets paid the ‘big bucks’ in a trash-talking exchange that was captured on video.
Dov Kleiman posted the video of Geno Smith on X and promptly went viral with over one million views by Sunday evening.
“That’s why they pay me the big bucks, that’s why I get paid the big bucks,” Smith passionately repeated during the verbal exchange during a football event. “That’s why they bring the big bucks to me, that’s why they pay me the big bucks. That’s why they pay me the big bucks!”
It is important to note that there was no physical altercation between Smith and anyone else in attendance.
Geno Smith’s 2025 Outlook with the Las Vegas Raiders
Assuming there will be team or league discipline from this verbal exchange, there is plenty of reason for Las Vegas fans to be optimistic about Smith taking over under center for the Raiders ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Las Vegas signed Smith to a two-year deal worth up to $75 million this offseason, which included $66.5 million guaranteed. Smith is set to turn 35 years old during the upcoming season, which makes his window to make the Raiders Super Bowl contenders again for the first time since the Rich Gannon era a bit smaller than some of the other franchise quarterbacks in the AFC West.
Smith steps into a situation where he will have Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers as his main weapons in the passing game. Additionally, he will likely have to lean heavily on rookie running back Ashton Jeanty — who is widely regarded as one of the best prospects to enter the league in the last decade.
Smith has quietly become one of the best deep ball throwers in the NFL over the last three seasons, but doesn’t exactly had a ton of proven vertical weapons in this new offense.
Sure, Tre Tucker and rookie Dont’e Thorton can fly, but neither player has done very much at the NFL level.
Rookie WR Jack Bech from TCU is an intriguing prospect with great size and quality hands, but doesn’t have the top speed to threaten opposing defensive backs vertically on a consistent basis.
Smith’s verbal exchange at this football event feels a bit odd, but doesn’t feel remotely close to anything to be concerned about for the Raiders. After all, Smith’s bank account validates his ‘big bucks’ verbal jab during this verbal exchange.
Raiders fans won’t have to wait much longer to see if the organization got their monies worth when they signed Smith to be their quarterback for the 2025 NFL season.
