The 2025 NFL season hasn’t gone as planned for the Las Vegas Raiders, and with a 2-7 record, questions about the coaching staff are emerging as the front office starts looking to the 2026 campaign.
NFL teams aren’t shy about firing a coach after just one season if the team has had a disastrous showing. If this season hits rock bottom and there are no positive signs to hold on to, whether it’s rookies starting to hit their stride or the play improving, Carroll could be done with the Raiders.
Amid Year 1 with Carroll being unsuccessful, FOX Sports Radio’s Rob Parker believes that the Raiders should hit the reset button and fire the 74-year-old.
“If I’m the Raiders, Mark Davis, there [are] two things I’m doing in the offseason,” Park said on the November 7 edition of “The Odd Couple With Rob Parker & Kelvin Washington.“ “I’m getting a haircut, a good one. And I’m getting rid of Pete Carroll.
“I’m sending him to a home care facility with some money. Thank you, Pete, very much. But there’s no way I’m going forward. This isn’t like other aspects of the team. The quarterback just really played poorly this year, and we could see everything. This team is awful. Just awful.”
Should the Raiders Regret Hiring Pete Carroll?
Moreover, Parker took a victory lap, noting that this hire of Carroll by the Raiders was going to blow up in the franchise’s face. He states that Las Vegas didn’t have the squad in place that required a veteran head coach like Carroll, and instead, this appears to be a rebuild, which might not suit the former Seattle Seahawks head coach, considering his age.
“There’s no future here,“ Parker added. “It doesn’t make sense. You’re not like, ‘Man, we got everything in place. We just need a veteran coach who could guide the locker room, you know what I mean, and rally the troops.‘ No, there’s so much work that needs to be done, and I’m just—how do you go forward? I don’t care if they like Pete Carroll.”
Will the Raiders Stick by Pete Carroll?
Despite Parker’s suggestion for the Raiders to fire Carroll, NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio believes the head coach will survive, and the coach to get the axe will be offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
“I feel like it’s not sustainable between the two of them,“ Florio said on the November 7 edition of “Pro Football Talk.” “And frankly, between the two, all due respect to Chip Kelly, I’m keeping Pete Carroll. I’m keeping Pete Carroll because Pete Carroll has accomplished things in the NFL. Chip Kelly has accomplished nothing…
“Chip Kelly has done nothing to prove that he’s got NFL chops. I was surprised they hired him. And again, was it a Brady hire? Was it a Brady recommendation? I don’t know. But I feel like when this season ends, one of those two guys is going to be gone between Carroll and Kelly. And my guess is it is gonna be Kelly.”
