Rams Add Playmaking ‘Human Missile’ in Latest In-Season Roster Shakeup

The Los Angeles Rams provided clarity through action, specifically regarding their sudden change of heart on young veteran safety Tanner Ingle. After his stint on the Rams’ 53-man roster got cut short, Ingle is back in a different capacity.

Ingle is fresh off playing in the first regular-season game of his career.

However, Ingle, a preseason darling whom Rams head coach Sean McVay called the “Human Missile,” has already garnered plenty of attention, making his return even more sensible.

“LA Rams Roster Moves,” the Rams’ PR team posted on X on November 25, specifying that they “Signed to Practice Squad S Tanner Ingle.”

Ingle did not record a stat during the Rams’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 12, logging three snaps on offense and 13 on special teams. Even in his brief exposure, Ingle lined up in multiple spots on the field, just as he did during the preseason.

The Rams announced less than 24 hours prior that they “Waived, No Recall” Ingle.

Since he cleared waivers, Ingle was able to sign anywhere that he pleased, and chose to return to the Rams on the practice squad.

Despite not registering anything in the box score, Ingle has made a strong impression. He not only brings versatility but is also a hard-hitting, physical presence on the field.  He is an intriguing option in a retooled secondary.

The Rams lost starting safety/nickelback Quentin Lake to injured reserve with a dislocated elbow, causing a chain reaction that led to LA signing Ingle to the 53-man roster. The Rams turned to Jaylen McCullough after Lake went down in Week 11 and Josh Wallace in Week 12.

Kam Curl and Kamren Kinchens are manning the starting safety spots.

Cobie Durant and resurgent former Washington Commanders first-round draft pick Emmanuel Forbes hold down the perimeter at cornerback.

The Rams also have Super Bowl champion Darious Williams and 2025 trade deadline acquisition Roger McCreary, whom McVay said could have re-entered Sunday’s tilt against the Buccaneers despite his injury, but the team played it safe.

The Rams can use up to three standard elevations on Ingle while he is on the practice squad.

After that, they would need to re-sign him to their active roster if they want to have him active for another game.

Ingle’s addition drew attention from “Downtown Rams” host Jake Ellenbogen, who pointed to another move the Rams could make in a follow-up.

“Aye the #Rams brought back Tanner Ingle,” Ellenbogen said in a post on X on November 25, quoting LA’s announcement on the deal. “Now they can claim Derion Kendrick tomorrow if they so choose.”

The Rams’ practice squad currently stands at 17 players with Ingle. They would need to release someone to make room for Kendrick, whom Ellenbogen stumped for in another post.

Seahawks waived Derion Kendrick,” Ellenbogen posted on November 25. “The #Rams should 100% bring him back. Why not make yourself deeper and better overall. He took a release and essentially a pay cut to come back to the team. He didn’t choose to play for the Seahawks, they claimed him. Rams wanted him to stay, he wanted to stay. This should be interesting.”

The Rams selected Kendrick with the No. 212 overall pick in the 2022 draft.

They waived him at the end of the 2025 preseason, before final roster cuts. The Seahawks claimed him off waivers. He has played in 10 games and has 2 interceptions this season.
