Rams CB Roger McCreary Sends 3-Word Message After Trade From Titans

The Los Angeles Rams have high hopes for newly acquired cornerback Roger McCreary, and he is eager to bring his skill set to the field.

McCreary was a second-round pick, selected No. 35 overall in the 2022 draft by the Tennessee Titans. The Rams acquired McCreary in a pick swap that returned the Titans’ draft capital, which LA held due to a previous deal for linebacker Ernest Jones.

The Rams hope McCreary can help out a banged-up secondary.

“What’s up LA!” McCreary posted, quoting his new team’s message.

McCreary previously posted a message to the Titans following the trade, expressing gratitude for his time with the organization.

“What a journey it has been. To each and everyone one of you thank you for your passion, loyalty and time. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Titans organization, coaches, my teammates and especially the fans for pushing me to be my very best both on and off the field,” McCreary said in the message posted on X on October 27.

“To the Strunk family, thank you for the opportunity to play for the Tennessee Titans. Running out of the Nissan Stadium will forever be a core memory for me on game days. As I turn the page on this chapter, I take with me the love and spirit of Nashville.”

Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke candidly about exploring options at cornerback well in advance of the trade for McCreary. In the aftermath, McVay said they are “excited” to bring McCreary in.

“We were looking to be able to just add some depth. He was a guy that [we] respect from playing against him earlier this year. Has some inside-outside flex,” McVay told reporters on October 27. “We’ll get him out here. And then, we’ll see what it looks like to be able to get him going for this week. But excited to be able to add him. Respect his game from going against him. I’ve heard great things about the human being from people that have been around him.

“He’ll be able to add some depth to our group, and we’re excited about it.”

McVay touted McCreary’s versatility again and noted the Rams’ long-standing interest in him, dating back to the pre-draft process.

“I think what we want to be able to do, … is we had a like for the football player in terms of his body of work, even going back to when he was coming out of Auburn. He’s obviously played the slot exclusively for the Titans this year. He has played a little bit of outside corner. But it was more just the competitor, what he was about,” McVay said. “Felt like it was a smart move. And then, once we get him in here, we’ll get a feel for the best way to take advantage of his skill set and where that fits.”

McCreary’s first opportunity to suit up for the Rams will come in Week 9, when they host the New Orleans Saints. His previous relationship with Rams assistant head coach and defensive passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant could help hasten McCreary’s acclimation process.
