Rangers Promote Infielder Who Was Recently Released by AL West Rival

The Texas Rangers‘ 2025 season is on the brink. While they are still in the American League wild card race with a 68-67 record, they have gotten hit hard by injuries late in August, with the latest guy hitting the injured list being star shortstop Corey Seager after he underwent an appendectomy earlier this week.

Seager could potentially return to the field later this season, but the Rangers would have to be in playoff contention in order for the team to potentially speed up his recovery timeline. In the meantime, the team needs some extra help in the majors, which is expected to lead to former Seattle Mariners’ utilityman Dylan Moore getting called up from Triple-A.

Rangers Set to Promote Dylan Moore After Corey Seager Injury

Moore broke into the majors with the Mariners back in 2019, and he’s stuck around since then as a jack-of-all-trades utilityman who can fill in at several different spots in a pinch for Seattle. While he’s always been a light hitter at the plate, Moore is a threat on the bases, and he is fresh off winning a Gold Glove in 2024.

In 2025, Moore’s struggles at the plate increased, as he has just a .193 batting average with nine home runs and 19 RBIs in 213 plate appearances. Last week, the Mariners decided to designate Moore for assignment, but it didn’t take long for him to land with the Rangers, where he ended up getting assigned to Triple-A.

With Seager out for the foreseeable future, Texas needs help at shortstop, which just so happens to be the position Moore is most comfortable playing at. Once Seager officially gets placed on the injured list, the expectation is that Moore’s contract will be selected by the team, which will result in him returning to the majors, even though he hasn’t even been with the Rangers for a week yet.

“The Rangers are expected to select Moore’s contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday,” Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reported.

Losing Seager is another tough blow for Texas, as he’s been enjoying another strong season for them. In 102 games, Seager is hitting .271 with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs, and he’s remained one of the team’s most productive players. Moore’s numbers at the plate don’t come anywhere close to Seager’s, but he can hold his own in the field, and the Rangers don’t have many other options to fill in at shortstop for the time being.

Texas still has to place Seager on the injured list and promote Moore, but the expectation is that both of those things will happen before they take the field on Friday night. The Rangers have been rolling as of late, as they have won five of their past six games, and they will be hoping Seager’s injury won’t disrupt their momentum. Texas will open a three-game series against the Athletics on Friday night, with Jack Leiter set to take the mound against Jeffrey Springs.
