Real Madrid have been crowned La Liga champions after Barcelona’s defeat to Girona.

Los Blancos were handed the title without kicking a ball as their arch-rivals suffered a 4-2 defeat to Girona on Saturday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side sealed a 3-0 win over Cadiz earlier on Saturday which meant Barcelona had to win at the Estadi Montilivi to keep the title race alive.

It sees Jude Bellingham win the league in his first season in Spain following his £115million move from Borussia Dortmund, having scored 22 goals in what has been a magnificent debut campaign.

Real win the Spanish crown for a record-extending 36th time and are also hoping to add another Champions League to their collection with their semi-final against Bayern Munich poised at 1-1 ahead of the second leg.

A final against Borussia Dortmund or Paris Saint-Germain awaits at Wembley if they beat the German giants next week.

Girona meanwhile have qualified for next season’s Champions League thanks to their thrilling victory over Barcelona having trailed 2-1 at half-time.

A remarkable second-half performance hauled the Catalan giants back with substitute Portu scoring twice.

Girona move into second place, a point clear of Barcelona, with Real 13 points clear at the top.

Real have four games of their domestic season left against Granada, Alaves, Villarreal and Real Betis.

Winning all four of those will see them end the season on 99 points which would stand as their second highest points tally.
