Reggie Bush Puts Mike McDaniel on Blast Amid Dolphins’ Struggles

The Miami Dolphins‘ nightmare 2025 campaign continued in Week 6, as they suffered a 29-27 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers in crushing fashion on Sunday afternoon. Pretty much everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Dolphins through six games, and in the wake of their latest defeat, former star running back Reggie Bush is pointing the finger at head coach Mike McDaniel.

While injuries certainly have not helped Miami, they have largely looked lifeless to begin the season, with their only victory coming against the winless New York Jets. McDaniel seems to be out of answers as the team’s leader, and Bush recently came for his head when discussing the state of his former team.

Reggie Bush Calls Out Mike McDaniel

In Week 6, the Dolphins pulled off a miraculous 13-point fourth-quarter comeback when Tua Tagovailoa found Darren Waller wide open in the back of the endzone with 46 seconds left in the game. That score gave Miami a 27-26 lead, and it seemed like that would be enough to earn the team its second win of the season.

The Chargers still had time, though, and on the second play of their next drive, Justin Herbert found Ladd McConkey on a short crosser that he ended up taking all the way to the Dolphins’ 17-yard line for a 42-yard gain. After bleeding the clock, Cameron Dicker nailed a game-winning 33-yard field goal that resulted in perhaps Miami’s most crushing loss of the season.

This loss certainly isn’t only McDaniel’s fault, but he continues to look overmatched on a weekly basis. If you ask Bush, he’s seen enough, as he believes McDaniel doesn’t have what it takes to get the Dolphins back on track, implying that he thinks it’s time for the team to move on from him and explore their options at the head coach position.

“Mike McDaniel has been running the same exact offense since he’s been there,” Bush said in an interview with DJ Siddiqi of RG. “He stands in front of the podium with this exact same look — like he’s depleted. He just doesn’t know. People have to start understanding he just doesn’t know. It’s OK if you don’t know. But if you’re doing the same things over and over and over and you’re expecting different results, come on, you can’t be serious.”

Should the Dolphins Fire Mike McDaniel?

At this point, it seems like only a matter of time until McDaniel gets fired. There’s virtually no shot he’s coaching this team in 2026; it’s just a question of whether or not the team wants to let him go in the middle of the season or wait until the end of the year. With things not getting any better, though, it seems like he could be headed for the exit door sooner rather than later.

Tagovailoa’s comments about the team’s lack of leadership certainly won’t help McDaniel, and if he does stick around, he’s going to have his work cut out for him. Miami has a game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 7 that they could very well win, but some serious changes need to be made to get this team back on track. Whether or not those changes will include moving on from McDaniel remains to be seen, and his status is worth watching over the coming days.
