Rival Team Reportedly Trying to Steal Brad Stevens From the Celtics

The Boston Celtics have done a good job of building a championship roster under Brad Stevens. Since moving to the front office, Stevens has done an excellent job and helped build the 2023 championship team by making multiple impact trades.

Stevens is recognized as one of the best GMs in the NBA. He is well-respected around the league. He’s also heavily respected in college basketball, where he got his start. Every time a big job opens up, he has to take himself out of the running. Now, rival teams are trying to poach him to run their teams.

According to a recent report, the Dallas Mavericks could be interested in pursuing Stevens.

The Celtics Could be in Danger of Losing Brad Stevens

According to a report from Marc Stein, the Mavericks could be trying to pry Brad Stevens away from Boston to become their GM. Dallas is prepared to offer him a ton of money to make the move. However, that doesn’t seem to be a motivating factor for Stevens.

NBA insider Chris Haynes did say that one of Stevens, Sam Presti, or Tim Connelly would listen to an offer. He didn’t indicate which one, though. Stevens has been in Boston for about a decade, so it would be surprising to see him leave at this point.

Boston has everything that Stevens could possibly want. The only reason why he would potentially entertain leaving the Celtics is that they have a new owner. If Stevens doesn’t like Bill Chisholm, he might decide to work for Patrick Dumont instead.

It’s clear that Dumont would sign off on any move that Stevens would want to make. He made that clear when he decided to trade Luka Doncic in what is widely considered the worst trade in NBA history. Perhaps that level of freedom would be enticing to Stevens.

It’s Unlikely Brad Stevens Would Leave Boston

It’s highly unlikely that the Celtics would end up losing Stevens. Stevens seems to love living in Boston and working for the franchise. He has a real shot to win another championship with them this year now that Jayson Tatum has returned to the roster.

Boston is one of the best GM jobs in the league. Quite frankly, it’s one of the best GM jobs in all of sports. Some relationship would need to sour very quickly in order for Stevens to leave the Celtics. He has built a perennial title contender, and the core of Tatum and Jaylen Brown isn’t going anywhere.

The Celtics would match any offer that the Mavs would try to give Stevens. They might even give him a raise from what Dallas would try to offer him. Again, it’s not clear if the Mavs would actually extend an offer to Stevens. If they do, it would likely be to make him say no.

Right now, the Celtics are third in the Eastern Conference standings. They have the second-best offense in the NBA. It would take a lot for Stevens to want to leave the situation he has built.
