Russell Wilson Makes a Big Promise to the New York Giants

There’s a lot of excitement and hope within the New York Giants‘ camp when it comes to the team’s upcoming season. After a very difficult 2024 season, which saw the Giants with a 3-14 record and at the bottom of the NFC East, the team is back with a totally new look, albeit the same head coach in Brian Daboll.

This year’s team is focused around new quarterback Russell Wilson, who’s offering some big veteran experience to the franchise. While Wilson is new to the Giants, he’s not new to football, of course, having been to two Super Bowls in his career, including Super Bowl XLVIII and Super Bowl XLIX, and winning Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 during his time with the Seattle Seahawks.

Giants followers would pretty much lose their minds if the Giants were able to get to the Super Bowl during the 2025 season. Of course, that’s not expected to happen, but even if the Giants can get to the postseason, it will be considered a successful turnaround. Now, Wilson is opening up about why he wanted to play with the Giants, and at the same time, he’s also making a promise to the team’s followers.

Russell Wilson on Joining the New York Giants

During an appearance on a panel at Fanatics Fest last weekend, Wilson said that he signed with New York because he loves the idea of playing with second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers. He has good taste, since Nabers is certainly one of the best players in the Giants’ camp.

“I came here because of him,” Wilson said, according to Empire Sports Media’s Anthony Rivardo. “I really wanted to play with someone who is special like him.” He added, “Also, too, we’ve got a lot of guys who have put a lot of hard work into it. We’ve got a really good defense, rushing the passer. We’ve got a lot of dudes. That’s a good thing.”

Wilson’s comments are in line with what he said earlier this month during an appearance on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast.

During that chat, he talked up the team and also made a promise to New York, saying that they could be “successful” and perform at the “highest level” once again.

“I fundamentally believe it’s possible again in terms of being successful again and being at the highest level,” he said on the show. “I think we got the right guys. … There’s a lot of good pieces to it. And it’s a show.”

Another Wide Receiver Admires Wilson

While Wilson is gushing over Nabers, another wide receiver, Wan’Dale Robinson, has been talking Wilson up.

“The first time we threw, me and Slay were both like, this is actually better than we expected. And so we were ecstatic about it, and couldn’t be more happy that he’s our quarterback,” Robinson said, according to NBC’s Pro Football Network.

He added, “When you walk into a stadium, into a locker room and you know, like my locker is the same locker I had when I won the Super Bowl. So, for me, when I see that, when I walk into the stadium I’m like, I’ve been here before. Not just been here but, like, we did this before.”
