Shedeur Sanders’ Mother Comes At ‘Cancerous’ Former Jets Coach In Now Deleted Instagram Rant

Former New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan, is no stranger to making headlines during his new role as a media personality. Following in the foot steps of his family’s storied past, Ryan is an often times blunt and problematic voice in NFL media. He is strongly opinionated and is not afraid to come directly after players.

He set his latest sights on Cleveland Browns‘ backup quarterback, and son of NFL Hall of Famer, Shedeur Sanders.

“This kid talks and he runs his mouth. Like he said, ‘I can be a starting quarterback’ with his arms crossed like this. Get your a– in the front row and study and do all that. If I know, the whole league knows,” Ryan said ESPN’s Get Up. “Quit being an embarrassment that way. You’ve got the talent to be the quarterback, you should be. You should be embarrassed that you’re not the quarterback now.”

Pilar Sanders Responds

Sanders’ mother, Pilar Sanders, saw the rant from the ex-Jets head coach and took to her Instagram stories to respond.

“To young Athletes and Football fans… This is what impotent, cancerous, envious energy looks like,” she wrote in a now deleted post. “This type of Evile (sic) goes waaay back – you can cut it with a knife – embedded in blood and bones seeping through all of the rotting worm holes it has.”

She continued on her strong indictment of Ryan’s cahracter.

“What and who does he really represent? Its family and peers should be embarrassed to know and let this on their platforms. There’s no room for this type in sports,” she concludes.

Rex Ryan’s Sentiment Lost In Translation

As people familiar with the way Rex Ryan does business, I believe his true sentiment was lost in translation. The Ryan’s are an old school bunch, brought up in football on philosophies that the player needs to be entirely focused on football at all times and any and all outside noise is purely distraction.

In fact, in the rant that started this whole thing, Ryan began by stating that Shedeur should in fact be the starting quarterback in Cleveland.

“You’ve got the talent to be the quarterback, you should be,” Ryan said. “You should be embarrassed that you’re not the quarterback now.”

Given this context, it makes Ryan’s passion filled cry sound more like a call to action. Asking the rookie to place the personality on the back burner until he is where he needs to be football wise.
The Ryan’s did not get to where they are today with well thought out, eloquently spoken critiques of quarterbacks.
While some personalities compare Shedeur’s treatment in the media, like this of Rex Ryan, to the black-balling of Colin Kaepernick. I think it is important to consider that, while Rex Ryan’s style may be outdated, his opinion may not come from a place of “cancerous envy” but rather a genuine desire to see the fifth-round pick reach his full potential in the NFL.
