Scotland captain Andy Robertson apologised for ‘letting the country down’ after their devastating defeat to Hungary.
Steve Clarke’s side were knocked out of Euro 2024 after conceding a last minute goal in a 1-0 defeat to Hungary in Stuttgart.
Scotland realistically needed victory to qualify for the knockout stages and they piled forward in the closing stages in search of a winner.
However, they were unpicked by Hungary, who grabbed a goal that could see them make the knockout stages.
Scotland managed just one shot on target during the defeat, despite knowing they need to win before the match to progress.
It means the Scots have never managed to progress past the group stages in the European Championships.
Almost 100,000 Scotland fans are said to have travelled to cheer on the nation but they failed to win any of their three group stage matches, leaving supporters devastated.

‘There’s nothing really to say to be honest. We gave it everything,’ said Robertson.
“We knew we had to win this game, and they’ve hit us on the counter-attack.
“It could have gone either way, but that’s football – that’s how it goes. It will take a long time to get over this one.
“We had a lot of possession, first half, without doing anything with it.
“We had to find that cutting edge and go for it a wee bit more.
“We did go for it, but we got sucker-punched. A draw wasn’t going to be enough realistically.
“Tonight and for a long time we have to get over this. It’s a tough one. It’s devastating.
“All the lads are absolutely gutted. I will say thank you to all the supporters; sorry for letting you all down.’
