The NBA’s Rookie of the Year race doesn’t necessarily include San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, but that isn’t due to a lack of success.
Being in a situation where he’s coming off the bench, Harper is on a different journey compared to some of the award’s top competitors, such as Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg, and VJ Edgecombe.
Still, Harper can finish the season with some notable accomplishments. One of them is surpassing the Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson in NBA history.

Dylan Harper’s Rookie Season With The Spurs
With the 2025-2026 season winding down, Harper has just two starts under his belt.
However, coming off the bench doesn’t mean he hasn’t been productive. With 22.4 minutes per game, Harper has been making the most of his playing time.

The 19-year-old guard is shooting 50.3% from the field, producing 11.7 points per game. 2.6 of his shots per game are coming from beyond the arc, where he’s averaging 32.7%.
The rookie guard is also producing 3.9 assists per game, along with 3.4 rebounds.
When it comes to scoring for rookies, Harper is in the top 10 in the NBA this season.

Spurs’ Top Pick In 2025 Is Panning Out So Far
The Spurs are currently the second-best team in the Western Conference when it comes to the standings. They trail the NBA Champions by fewer than three games.
While the veterans are running the show, Harper has been an excellent member of the supporting cast during his rookie effort.
San Antonio landed some solid luck in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. After the Dallas Mavericks acquired the No. 1 pick, which expectedly became Cooper Flagg, the Spurs went with the Rutgers star, Dylan Harper.
Soon enough, Harper will get a chance to contend in the NBA Playoffs with the Spurs. Then, he’ll focus on his sophomore effort, when his role will inevitably increase.
