Steelers Cut Ties With Former Promising Late-Round Pick Yet Again

After waiving linebacker Mark Robinson before the start of the 2025 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to bring back the former seventh-round pick. But Tuesday, the organization parted ways with the linebacker a second time in three months.

The Steelers announced ahead of Week 13 they signed defensive lineman Anthony Goodlow and wide receiver Cornell Powell to their practice squad.

In corresponding moves, the Steelers waived Robinson and defensive back Daequan Hardy to create practice squad space.

Robinson arrived in Pittsburgh as the No. 225 overall selection during the seventh round in the 2022 NFL Draft. At the end of his rookie season, there was chatter among the team’s pundits and fan base that Robinson could be a starter entering his second campaign.

But instead, the Steelers added numerous inside linebackers in the draft and free agency over the next two years. In August 2025, the team waived Robinson ahead of the NFL’s roster cutdown day.

Robinson rejoined the Steelers through their practice squad on November 4. In two games with Pittsburgh this season, he didn’t posted any statistics. Robinson played zero snaps on defense while lining up for 10 snaps on special teams.

Steelers Part Ways With LB Mark Robinson

The linebacker returned to the Steelers in November after beginning the 2025 NFL regular season with the New England Patriots. Robinson signed with the Patriots practice squad days after his first exit from Pittsburgh.

Robinson played for New England against the Steelers in Week 3. In three contests with New England, Robinson posted three combined tackles.

The linebacker then continued the season with the New York Jets, who signed Robinson to their active roster off the Patriots practice squad. Robinson also played three contests for New York.

The Jets waived Robinson in October. About two and a half weeks later, he was back with the Steelers.

Robinson dressed for 17 contests in Pittsburgh during the 2023 and 2024 season. Overall, he’s appeared in 46 NFL games, posting 50 combined tackles, including one tackle for loss. Robinson also has one quarterback hit and three forced fumbles.

This season, Robinson has posted five combined tackles in eight games.

Steelers Add Former Chiefs WR Cornell Powell

The Steelers parted ways with Robinson and Hardy to make room for yet another receiver and a defensive lineman.

Powell hasn’t appeared in an NFL regular season game since 2022. He also hasn’t made a catch.

But Powell spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs during their Super Bowl campaigns in 2022 and 2023. Powell was also with the Chiefs practice squad last year.

Since Kansas City released him in November 2024, Powell has experienced stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans. Powell is joining his first NFL team since the Texans waived him following the preseason.

Goodlow arrived in Pittsburgh with the Steelers set to miss first-round rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon on Sunday. Head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out Harmon for Week 13 on Tuesday because of a knee injury.

Goodlow played in three games for the Arizona Cardinals this season. He posted three combined tackles while playing 36 defensive snaps.
