Stephon Castle Reacts to Victor Wembanyama Injury in Spurs Game vs 76ers

Before coming away with a shorthanded win against the Philadelphia 76ers, the San Antonio Spurs lost their star center, Victor Wembanyama, to an injury.

The star center is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season with the playoffs approaching.

The Spurs defeated the Sixers 115-102 on Monday, April 6.

Wembanyama didn’t make it to the third quarter. He left the game after seeing the court for 16 minutes of action. The big man posted 17 points on 7-11 shooting from the field.

The star center also had five rebounds, one assist, and a block before going out.

The Spurs landed a lot of help from the star guard, Stephon Castle. He moved up in Spurs history with another triple-double on his resume. Castle checked in for 31 minutes. He accounted for 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists.

After the Spurs improved with their 60th win of the year, Castle addressed reporters and offered an update on Wembanyama from his perspective.

“I’m just hoping he’s healthy. I didn’t really see the play. I didn’t see what happened. So just hoping he’s doing alright. I mean, I know he wanted us to stay focused on the game, but, I mean, yeah, just thinking about his well-being,” Castle told reporters.

“He looks like he’s doing good,” the guard finished.

The Spurs didn’t have any immediate updates from the medical staff. The head coach, Mitch Johnson, was optimistic that Wembanyama isn’t dealing with anything long-term, but he truly couldn’t give a detailed update on the star center until Wembanyama underwent additional testing.

Wembanyama’s race for awards such as MVP and Defensive Player of the Year is important, but the Spurs also need to ensure he’s healthy for the upcoming playoff run.

Being one of two teams to notch a 60-win season so far, the Spurs are well on their way to the postseason. They are guaranteed a top-two seed, although No. 2 is more likely, as they trail multiple games.

As long as Wembanyama isn’t at risk of missing postseason action, the Spurs will look to find a way to get him out on the court to keep the ball rolling. This season, Wembanyama has 63 games under his belt.

The veteran enter is posting averages of 24.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 3.1 blocks per game.

Soon, Wembanyama will embark on his first taste of postseason action since entering the league in 2025-2026.
