Tennessee Titans Strengthen Backfield with Latest Running Back Signing

An undrafted free agent has made his way to Tennessee. The Titans latest signing is a two-year deal on a former New Orleans Saints running back.

Neither team had a successful 2024 campaign, with the Titans hoping a change of scenery will benefit the Fresno State graduate. With only 70 career rushing yards, the 26-year-old will one to keep an eye on as he looks to earn a spot on the roster.

Jordan Mims Signs a Two-Year Deal with the Tennessee Titans

In a running back room that used to have Derrick Henry, the Titans now see Tony Pollard suit up as RB1. Pollard impressed last season, exploding for a career high, 1,079 rushing yards. It marks three straight 1,000+ yard seasons for the former 2019 4th round pick.

Mims has yet to see much action in his NFL career. He played just two games in 2023, though he didn’t record a single stat. The following year, he played in nine more games as he got his first carries. He totaled 20 attempts for 70 yards, averaging 3.5 per carry.

While he didn’t have any rushing attempts in his rookie season, he did have two targets. He didn’t haul in either of those catches, unlike the 12 receptions he had in 2024. Mims oddly finished with more receiving yards, 71, than he did rushing.

Picking up a total of six first downs last season, the potential is there. Mims hasn’t had his big break in the NFL yet, but that’s going to be hard to get when he’s backing up the likes of Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

Titans Running Back Room

Other than Pollard and Spears, Julius Chestnut and Kalel Mullings are listed as RB3 and RB4 according to ESPN. Upon signing Mims, the Titans waived running back Tyrion Davis-Price.

The LSU graduate was waived before he saw any playing time on the field. In his NFL career, he’s played for the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. Oddly enough, he is a Super Bowl Champion as he had three carries for seven yards with the Eagles last season.

Regardless, Mims has his work cut out for him. With Titans training camp beginning on Tuesday, July 22, he has just a few days to familiarize himself with the system. The team’s first practice begins one day later, Wednesday, July 23.

Spears is entering his third season with the Titans. The 2023 3rd round pick played just 12 games last year as he was sidelined with numerous injuries. An ankle and hamstring injury kept him out, as well as concussion issues.

Even though he played in five fewer games, Spears finished with just 16 fewer carries than his 2023 total. He had two more rushing touchdowns than he did in the prior season. Compared to Pollard, Spears finished with 11 fewer receptions but only 14 fewer receiving yards.

New Look Offense as Cam Ward Leads the Charge

While it’s clear that Pollard, Spears, and Mims can all catch the ball, it remains to be seen how this Titans offense will operate. The 2025 No. 1 pick, Cam Ward, has the ball in his hands. Ward is not afraid to sling the ball, but he can use his legs as well. All of this will play a factor as Ward looks to lead the team to more than three wins.
