Tiger Woods Hit With Powerful Take From Stephen A. Smith

Tiger Woods was hit with a powerful take from Stephen A. Smith as new questions surfaced about his private life. Since Woods was arrested on a DUI charge on Friday, the 50-year-old golf legend has seemingly only made the situation worse for himself. On Wednesday, the top ESPN commentator let Woods know exactly what he thinks about it.

The Friday arrest was only the latest in a series of driving incidents for Woods, including a 2017 arrest that ended with Woods admitting to “reckless driving” in a plea deal. But according to a report over the weekend, Woods has refused to hire a personal driver to get him around, saying he wants to protect his privacy. That report drew a strong reaction from Smith, speaking on ESPN’s First Take Wednesday morning.

“I don’t give a damn about his privacy. You know what? We don’t care right now,” Smith said on the broadcast. “You must have a very highly suspect life that you, as a billionaire, don’t even want to hire a driver. Something wrong with that. You want your privacy. Privacy from what? What’s the driver going to do? Because he dropped you off someplace, he don’t know where he dropped you off? I mean, damn, what are you trying to hide?”

According to Forbes, Woods has a personal net worth of $1.5 billion, making him one of the world’s richest professional athletes.

What Else Did Stephen A. Smith Say About Tiger Woods?

Woods on Wednesday issued a statement saying that he would be “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” meaning that he would not enter the prestigious Masters tournament starting next week.

But for Smith, the answer for Woods’ predicament is simpler — just stop driving.

“Bump your statements. We don’t care. What we care to hear from you is that we don’t have to worry about you being behind the wheel of a vehicle inebriated again. That’s it. Go ahead and get better,” Smith continued. “Live your life and be at peace, man. Ain’t nobody wishing any harm upon you, but what you did potentially harmed somebody else. You’re lucky you didn’t kill somebody, if not yourself.”

Woods Doesn’t Want Driver to ‘Know What He is Doing’

According to a Monday report by People, Woods “doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing,” and that is the reason he refuses to hire a private driver, a move that would be an instant improvement to his personal safety, and the safety of others on the road when he drives.

“We’re not going to feel sympathy for people that get behind the wheel of a ride knowing that you are not your full self. You’re not fully cogent and lucid and all of that. Nah. None of that,” Smith said. “Stay the hell away from being behind the wheel of a vehicle. Hire a driver. I think we know you can afford it. Do it.”

Woods may have no choice but to hire a driver if he is convicted on the latest charges against him. He faces a one-year suspension of his driver’s license and up to six months in jail on the charges.
