Tigers Get Promising Update on Bo Bichette Pursuit

The Detroit Tigers had another solid season in 2025. The Tigers finished the 2025 campaign with an 87-75 record and second place in the American League Central standings. With this, the Tigers made the postseason for the second year in a row.

The Tigers’ postseason run started off in a good fashion, as they defeated the Cleveland Guardians in the MLB Wild Card round in three games. However, the Tigers then had a rough finish to the postseason, as they lost to the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS in five games. The Tigers’ defeat in Game 5 was a heartbreaking one, too, as they lost to the Mariners in the 15th inning by a 3-2 final score.

Now, after a tough end to their playoff run, the Tigers are certainly a team on a mission right now. The Tigers will be looking to take another step forward in 2026 and be big-time contenders. As a result of this, they have been linked to multiple free agents, and star infielder Bo Bichette is easily among the most notable.

Now, the Tigers have gotten a promising update on the possibility of them being the lucky team that ends up winning the Bichette sweepstakes.

Tigers Predicted to Sign Star Free Agent Bo Bichette

In a recent article for CBS Sports, R.J. Anderson took a look at the top 10 MLB free agents and predicted where each of them would sign. With Bichette being one of the top stars available for the taking, he naturally made the cut.

When it came to Bichette, Anderson picked the Tigers as the team that would sign the two-time All-Star in free agency.

“If the Blue Jays do land Tucker, that would seem to take away the possibility of Bichette returning to Toronto. Meanwhile, the teams who lose out on Bregman will likely renew their pursuits of Bichette. We’ll guess Detroit because they could slot Bichette in at shortstop, but this is a low-confidence prediction that hinges on nailing the Tucker and Bregman guesses,” Anderson wrote.

While Anderson’s prediction is dependent on where Tucker and Bregman end up signing, it is certainly encouraging to see the Tigers being named as a real potential landing spot for Bichette. When looking at the Tigers’ roster, there is no question that they could use an impactful hitter like him as they look to make a push for the World Series.

If the Tigers landed Bichette, he would immediately give the top half of their lineup a significant boost. In addition, Bichette would certainly give the Tigers a massive upgrade in their infield, so there is no question that he would be a great fit on Detroit’s roster.

The Bichette Sweepstakes Are Heating Up

While the Tigers are being predicted to land Bichette, there is no question that a ton of teams would love to get their hands on him. At 27 years old, he is right in his prime. Furthermore, he is coming off another strong season with the Toronto Blue Jays, as he had 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and a .311 batting average.

A few teams that have been heavily connected to Bichette this winter include the Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees. As a result of this, there is no question the Tigers have competition for Bichette’s services, and it will be intriguing to see if they land him from here.
