Timberwolves Trade Idea Ships Out Donte DiVincenzo for $36 Million Point Guard

The Minnesota Timberwolves have placed themselves in the upper echelon of NBA teams.

Their back-to-back Conference Finals appearances prove just that, with two different iterations of the team knocking on the door to the NBA Finals.

They haven’t been able to crack through just yet, with the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder playing bouncer.

This season, the T-Wolves look to make that next step with superstar Anthony Edwards leading the way.

The supporting cast is as elite as ever as well, featuring Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid.

But if Minnesota wants to take the next step and compete for an NBA championship, there are still a few moves left to make to put them over the top.

Timberwolves Trade Proposal Lands Bulls’ Coby White

In a trade idea from Fadeaway World, Eddie Bitar has the Minnesota Timberwolves acquiring Chicago Bulls point guard Coby White.

But at a fairly steep price.

Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Coby White

Chicago Bulls receive: Donte DiVincenzo, Rob Dillingham, 2029 first-round pick, 2030 second-round pick, 2032 second-round pick

“Enter Coby White, a 25-year-old guard who blossomed into one of the NBA’s underrated performers last season. He posted 20.4 points and 4.5 assists per game on 37.0% from deep last season and is of fringe All-Star status,” wrote Bitar.

“Pairing him with Anthony Edwards could give Minnesota the kind of dual-threat backcourt capable of overwhelming even the stingiest defenses. For a team that’s built on size and discipline, adding speed, creativity, and youth could be the spark that finally puts them over the top.”

While Minnesota has an incumbent point guard in Mike Conley, he just turned 38 on October 11 and isn’t getting any younger.

At this point in his career, his leadership is best needed in the locker room and on the bench.

Shipping out Donte DiVincenzo is a tough blow, as he was a key rotational player throughout Minnesota’s run to the Conference Finals last year.

Rob Dillingham, on the other hand, is a developmental piece that has yet to flash.

Would the Bulls Agree to the Deal?

The Chicago Bulls are a team stuck in purgatory.

The roster is never quite good enough to crack the postseason, but they’ll always make noise in the play-in tournament.

If presented with this White trade, it seems like Chicago would be fairly open to any deal giving them draft capital.

“The Bulls’ front office has resisted a full rebuild, clinging to a core that hasn’t advanced past the first round since 2015. But selling high on White while his stock is soaring could be their smartest long-term play,” continued Bitar.

“A deal with Minnesota nets them a first-round pick and a 20-year-old Dillingham, who needs reps on the court. DiVincenzo might not fit their timeline, but he can be moved for a first-round pick or a handful of second-rounders as well.”

Allowing White to start a new chapter of his career, and first away from Chicago, is mutually beneficial for both sides.

Josh Giddey, with his freshly signed four-year, $100 million contract extension, instantly becomes the team’s lead ball handler.

And much to the chagrin of Chicago fans, they can finally get started on a long-term rebuild.
