Tour Championship Picks: 3 (Non-Scheffler) Picks for PGA Tour Finale

The 2025 PGA Tour season has just about reached its end, but a champion must first be crowned, and that will happen at East Lake Golf Club with the Tour Championship.

The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will invade Atlanta where the longtime host club awaits. Scottie Scheffler comes in with a commanding lead in the points race, but that no longer matters. The Tour changed the format for its championship, meaning whoever shoots the lowest score at the Tour Championship wins the FedEx Cup — and the $10 million first prize.

Here’s all you need to know about East Lake Golf Club before a few picks (non-Scheffler because he’s probably going to win anyway) to win the Tour Championship.

What to Know About Tour Championship Host, East Lake

East Lake Golf Club (Atlanta)
Par: 70 (35-35)
Yardage: 7,440
Purse: $40 million ($10 million to winner)
Defending champion: Scottie Scheffler (with starting strokes)

Notes: This is the second post-renovation year for the Tour Championship. In 2024, the first after Andrew Green overhauled the Atlanta course, the greens were extremely hard, which is typical for new greens. This year, it should play a little softer with a maturing root system … Gary Young, the PGA Tour senior VP for rules and competition, recently said players wanted a more challenging test, and that with the restored East Lake, they plan to “amp up” the difficulty. … East Lake has been dethatching the rough in a way that should present even more unpredictable lies in the rough, putting even more emphasis on driving accuracy.

The video below is an excellent look at the changes and what the Tour hopes will challenge the players for the FedEx Cup.

Tour Championship 2025 Picks

(Odds via GolfOdds.com)

Russell Henley (16-1): Starting things off with a Georgia boy, Henley continues to be one of the most underrated players in the world. That’s probably because he doesn’t win a ton; Henley enters the week with five career wins in 302 starts while managing to rack up $42 million in on-course earnings. He does have a win this year (the Arnold Palmer Invitational) and a runner-up at the Travelers, both signature events. Shrink the field even more to 30, and he’s even more enticing. As a straight hitter who won’t be hurt by non-bomber status here, he’s a great fit, as evidenced by two top-five finishes at East Lake.

J.J. Spaun (35-1): The 2025 U.S. Open champion’s breakout year has been no fluke. Spaun ranks seventh in strokes gained total for the year. He’s 38th off the tee and sixth on approach, while slightly better than field average in putting, too. He’s been truly elite with a wedge in his hand, too, so if he and his caddie can build a sound approach (this is his first time playing East Lake), there’s full confidence he can execute any shot on the course. He finished second at the St. Jude with his best overall performance since Oakmont, and he would have finished higher at the BMW Championship if he didn’t have his worst putting performance since March. If he’s anywhere back near average with the flat stick in Atlanta, he will be at the top of the board with a chance to win.

Harris English (50-1): In a vacuum, he’s a great course fit. He’s trending the wrong direction on approach, and an elite putting week saved him at the BMW. But if he can put it together in the slightest, he’s good enough to contend, especially in a small field, making that 50-1 number too much to pass up.
