Travis Kelce Makes Head-Turning Comment on Future Career Plans

While Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce, 35, returns for another season hungrier than ever, he knows retirement isn’t far away.

Kelce recently told the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast that he could see himself going into broadcasting after his NFL career. He would be far from the first to do that, of course, and Kelce already does his own podcast, “New Heights.”

“I wanna see what calling a game feels like,” Kelce said during the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast. “Getting in the booth. I’ve always impersonated guys that call the games and stuff like that growing up. I don’t know, I thought it would always be fun to just jump in there. Player names is where I would get [expletive] ruined.

For now, Kelce wants to ruin other team’s seasons in 2025, especially after a devastating loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Travis Kelce: ‘I’ve Got a Lot More to Prove’

Kelce walked off the field on the wrong end of things following a Super Bowl for the second time in his career at New Orleans last winter.

While speculation abounded on whether or not it would be his last season, the taste of the Super Bowl loss was too much. His relatively down year of 97 receptions, 823 yards, and three touchdowns didn’t stop him either.

“I really didn’t feel like it was my last game. Just felt like I’ve got a lot more to prove,” Kelce said during a June 18 press conference. “It wasn’t a very tough [decision] for me. I know I’m getting older, but at the same time, I still feel like I got a lot that I can prove in this league.”

Kelce will need to prove that his decline over the past two years is only temporary. He hasn’t surpassed 97 receptions, 984 yards, or five touchdowns since 2022 when he had one of the best years of his career.

“I love football,” Kelce said. “I don’t think I really thought about it that much. My friends and family and the team and the guys and women in this building, I love coming into work every single day.”

In addition, Kelce’s individual performance at the Super Bowl is still on his mind as a motivator this year.

“Last year I think I failed especially in that last game in being a leader and being the one that can step up and make plays. So just setting the bar even higher for myself this year than I have in the past,” Kelce said. “Last year wasn’t a success for me and I’m motivated to make sure we get that other ring this year.”

Travis Kelce: ‘I’m Focus on Winning a Championship’

Kelce enters a contract year amid his two-year $34.25 million deal, but he’s more focused on a piece of jewelry versus cash.

“The Chiefs’ organization knows how much I love them,” Kelce said. “I can’t see myself ever playing anywhere else, so we’ll deal with that down the road when the time is right.”

Kansas City drafted Kelce in 2013, and he has been a star ever since. Kelce is the third-highest paid tight end in the NFL, and he could command a larger salary in 2026 depending on his performance this upcoming season.

“But right now, I’m focused on winning a championship this year,” Kelce said.
