Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift Relationship Rated by Unlikely Source

The range of opinions on the relationship between Kansas City Chiefs future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce and global pop music megastar Taylor Swift — a relationship that in August moved to the next level when the couple announced their engagement — is one of those things that comes along every so often in American culture that seems to get an opinion out of everyone.

“Is it just me or is there something about Taylor Swift’s betrothal to NFL star Travis Kelce that feels a lot more personal than any other ‘extremely famous celebrity engaged to a less famous celebrity’? The culmination of their two-year relationship is something many of us are strangely invested in, even if we’re only mild Swifties,” wrote Vogue reporter Claire Cohen. “Even pals who have never shown any interest in the singer prior to this have piped up to say that this was the heartwarming slash distracting news they needed.”

Poll Shows How Many Actually Care About Swift-Kelce

A poll taken by YouGov in September made headlines with its finding that 72 percent of Americans claimed to care “not at all” about the Swift-Kelce engagement. But perhaps more importantly the same poll found that 20 percent did, in fact, care with only seven percent saying they were “not sure” whether they cared or not.

That means one of every five Americans actually care about Kelce and Swift and their extremely well-documented romance.

One of those people, it became clear this week, is 23 million album-selling rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who not only offered his opinion on the Swift-Kelce romance during an interview on ExtraTV Wednesday, he also offered his view, albeit quickly, on Kelce’s previous known relationship.

50 Cent Throws Shade at Kelce’s Ex

Prior to dating, and subsequently becoming engaged to Swift, the Chiefs’ 13-year veteran tight end dated model and Instagram influencer Kayla Nicole.

Though he did not call out Nicole by name in the interview, when asked whether he gave his approval to Taylor Swift as a partner for Kelce, Jackson replied, “I do, I do. I like it a lot better than the last thing he had going on.”

According to the celebrity news and gossip site TMZ, “that last thing is Kayla Nicole, who dated Travis for five years before he got engaged to his megastar fiancée.”

Within hours, Nicole posted a picture of herself on her Instagram account which, though also not referencing Jackson directly — or Kelce and Swift — was seen by some in the media as a response of sorts to Jackson’s comment.

In the post, Nicole said she was looking for suggestions for a 2025 Halloween costume and posted images of herself in her “costume” from last year.

50 Cent Gets Shout-Out on New Swift Album

Why was Jackson commenting on the Swift-Kelce relationship at all? The subject came up because Swift directly referenced him in her song “Ruin the Friendship,” included on her newest album The Life of a Showgirl, released earlier this month. The song appears to be a recollection by Swift of a failed romance from her school-age days, which would have been about 20 years ago or more.

“And it was not an invitation / But as the 50 Cent song played (Song playеd) / Should’ve kissed you anyway,” Swift sings on the track.

“It really is cool because when she makes the reference, if you listen to the song, it’s to what was going on in culture at that time,” Jackson said, commenting on the lyrical shout-out by Swift. “The music, you couldn’t miss it at that point and that’s why it was cool to me… What she was making reference to is the period that no one was more prominent in music at that point.”
