‘Tweet of the year’ – Fans hail Luke Humphries after darts star forces troll to delete account

Humphries was on fire as he breezed past world number two Michael van Gerwen with an 8-1 win in the tournament’s final.

And after his near-113 average denied MVG from winning a fourth German title, Humphries hit out at a Green Machine loving fan who had been trolling him online prior to the face-off.

Taking to X Humphries posted a GIF of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry shooting a cheeky smile to the camera.

He shared the post alongside the caption: “Good evening @Ronaldinho_RG1O – hope you’re well… ”

It would appear that the user took Humphries public response pretty badly as the account in question is now suspended from X.

Fans loved Cool Hand Luke’s response and praised him for his quick wit, with one suggesting the post was the “tweet of the year”.

Another commented: “HAHHAHAA NAH THIS IS THE BEST TWEET!”

A third joked: “Didn’t expect to see this today!”

While a fourth added: “Unbelievable stuff.”

Humphries’ win just adds to his recent success with the 29-year-old continuing to set the standard in the world of darts.

Since his World Championship victory in January the world number one has reached the final of the UK Open and stormed his way to the top of the Premier League table with three consecutive night wins.

He will now turn his attention to this Thursday’s action as the Premier League returns for night ten in Manchester.

Humphries will take on Michael Smith in his quarter-final as he looks to keep his momentum going.
