Veteran NFL Receiver Turns Heads with High Praise for Titans No. 1 Overall Pick

A scuffle in practice may have been exactly what the Tennessee Titans No. 1 overall pick needed. With a new bit of confidence on his shoulder, this veteran receiver hyped up his QB.

Joining the Jim Rome show, an 11-year NFL veteran had nothing but great things to say about Tennessee’s latest draft pick. With one preseason game remaining, he’ll have just two more weeks to get as much chemistry as he can with this Miami graduate.

Tyler Lockett Has Nothing But Great Things to Say About Cam Ward

The word going around Tennessee has been focused on Brian Callahan keeping his job. Callahan’s tenure as the Titans head coach rests in Cam Ward’s hands. That’s a scary thing for a rookie QB to have to carry around, but Tyler Lockett praised Ward like no other.

“Every single day he’s out there and he’s trying to get better,” Lockett said. “I know it kind of sounds cliche, but he’s really out there. He lives and breathes football. I’m not saying that’s not something everybody else does, but this is literally his hobby, his career, this is what he does at home. He thinks, sleeps, and breathes football.”

Lockett continued, “I think he does a great job already of hanging out with everybody. Inviting the O-Line to go eat, doing things with the receivers and running backs. You can tell the chemistry is there off the field.”

Ward has thrown for 109 yards in his first two preseason games. Week 1 saw him immediately showcase the chemistry he has with Calvin Ridley. Last week, a key drop from Van Jefferson cost him his first touchdown. Ward didn’t let it phase him as he’s fully regrouped heading into the team’s preseason finale against Minnesota.

Tyler Lockett’s Veteran Presence and Choice to Play With Cam Ward

Even though he signed a one-year, $4 million deal before Tennessee drafted Ward, that was already the forgone conclusion. Lockett has only played for Seattle in his career. For the first time since 2014, he’ll be on a team other than the Seahawks.

With so many changes in Seattle, it was discussed that Lockett wanted to come play with Ward. That’s a massive thing for a veteran receiver to say, especially knowing how little discussion there has been around the 2025 No. 1 overall pick.

“He’s always willing to learn and listen. Regardless of if he’s the first pick or not, being able to listen and learn is something all of us need to have in our tool belt no matter how far we are in our career or where we’re trying to go,” Lockett added.

The veteran receiver told Jim Rome, “he’s just trying to meet him [Ward] where he’s at.” Lockett spoke about not wanting to say too much, or too little. Even though he’s a veteran and has seemingly seen it all in the NFL, he knows it’s important not to overstep.

Ward has a lot on his plate ahead of Week 1 on September 7. The Titans open their season in Denver before Ward is able to settle in at Nissan Stadium for the team’s next two games.
