Warriors’ Steve Kerr Announces Stephen Curry News Ahead of Spurs Game

As the regular season works to a close, the Golden State Warriors look to re-gain a crucial piece.

In a turbulent season littered with injuries, there hasn’t been much for the Warriors to write home about over the last seven months.

The 2025-26 campaign flipped on its head when star wingman Jimmy Butler was lost for the season back in January. Butler, 36, isn’t guaranteed to return next season, either.

Not long after Butler went down, so did star point guard Stephen Curry

Though his injury is thankfully much less severe than this co-star’s, Golden State fans have been growing impatient waiting for the face of the franchise to return to the hardwood.

Curry, 38, has seen his season slowed down by a runner’s knee injury. Curry began experiencing discomfort in his right knee on Jan. 24 and a few days later, began what has gone on to be a lengthy shutdown. The two-time MVP hasn’t missed this much time since way back in the 2019-20 season.

However, things are finally headed in an encouraging direction after an update that was announced today.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr provides key update

As the Warriors gear up to play the San Antonio Spurs, the Western Conference’s No. 2 seed, the team held practice today and welcomed Curry’s participation.

Curry was scheduled to engage in a full speed five-on-five scrimmage after practice. Depending on how that goes, there is potentially a final injury update for Curry on the horizon.

After the team went through some drills, coach Steve Kerr dropped some insight on his star point guard.

“It’s a good step for Steph,” Kerr said.

The Warriors’ bench boss also stated that he believes there is a likely scenario where Curry can play enough regular season games before the start of the play-in tournament. Golden State will almost certainly be in a do-or-die situation unless it is somehow able to chase down the L.A. Clippers for the No. 8 seed.

As for tomorrow night’s contest at home against the Spurs, Curry has already been ruled out.

However, Kerr did reveal that Curry is “doubtful” for Thursday’s matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers, indicating there is some hope the San Antonio game could be the final game Curry sits out with a runner’s knee injury.

Dubs hoping for the best case scenario as 82-game slate winds down

Amid an incredibly testy season, the Warriors are hopeful they can at least finish strong.

Of course, Curry’s return gives his team the best chance at going further, but many have come to accept that the likelihood the Warriors survive two play-in games and set up a first round playoff dance is slim. They are simply running on fumes being down so many bodies.

Consider it a win if Curry can return with a small handful of regular season games and can put on his superhero cape and get Golden State one play-in victory. That way the Warriors can leave the season showing grit and some heart.

After what we learned about today’s update on Curry, there is a strong possibility more positive news gets announced in another couple of days.
