Announcing the news this morning, The Overlap enlisted the help of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“Manchester United, Everton and England legend Wayne Rooney has signed an agreement with The Overlap.

“The deal is completed and signed. Rooney will join his friends and ex-team-mates Gary Neville, Roy Keane and the rest of the team and will be making his debut very soon.

Rooney had been out of work since being sacked as Birmingham City manager in January.

He lasted just 83 days at St Andrew’s, winning two of his 15 games in charge as Blues plummeted towards the relegation zone.

Rooney has taken steps into the world of punditry since leaving Birmingham.

Last week he appeared on Sky Sports’ coverage of Everton’s 2-0 Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool.

While he has also been tipped to feature as a pundit for the BBC at Euro 2024 this summer.

Rooney had been due to make his Match of the Day debut earlier this month.

But a back injury suffered on holiday scuppered his appearance, leaving him “gutted”.

He wrote on social media: “Gutted not to be making my debut on the iconic @BBCMOTD show tonight, it’s something I have wanted to do since I was little.

“Unfortunately I have sustained a painful back injury during a holiday with my family but I look forward to being part of the team in the near future.

“Good luck to @GaryLineker and the guys for tonight’s show and see you soon.”

Lineker, 63, was instead joined for the show by Micah Richards and Martin Keown.
