Willie Mullins’ Scottish Grand National runner hammered in betting before jockey’s ban kicks in

A WILLIE MULLINS Scottish Grand National runner has been absolutely hammered in the betting – after punters noticed the jockey booking.

Willie and son Patrick landed the Grand National at Aintree with 33-1 Nick Rockett last weekend.

There were tears in the winner’s enclosure as they embraced after Mullins Snr landed a remarkable 1-2-3 in the world’s most famous race.

That propelled him to within touching distance of winning a second straight British jumps trainer title.

And he is going all out in his pursuit of hunting down Dan Skelton at the top of the standings this weekend.

Mullins has entered a small army for Ayr’s Scottish Grand National card – and his horses predictably dominate the betting for the big one.

Chosen Witness, who runs in the colours of Supreme winner Kopek Des Bordes, has been the long-time market leader.

But BoyleSports reported a surge of cash for another runner in very famous silks – and with an eye-catching jockey.

Olympic Man, who runs in the Galopin Des Champs silks, will be ridden by Patrick – who was banned after his Aintree heroics.

Punters are banking on them pulling off a stunning National double, with Olympic Man being hammered into 9-1 from 20s.

The surge of cash has come before Patrick’s ban – for overuse of the whip – kicks in from Wednesday, April 23.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “It was a day that the Mullins family will never forget at Aintree last Saturday and punters are hoping lightning can strike twice.

“Closutton are firing six darts at the Scottish Grand National in the pursuit of the trainers’ title but it’s the mount of Patrick, Olympic Man, that’s giving us bookies the willies!”
