World Series Hero Comes Back to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed utility infielder Miguel Rojas to a one-year, $5.5 million deal, according to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com and Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

The veteran infielder will enter his 13th, and final, season in the major leagues. Rojas had previously stated his intention to retire after the 2026 season, and he will indeed stay in Dodger blue.

Rojas is known as a utility man who can play all around the infield. During the 2025 season, Rojas had a .262/.318/.397  slash line with seven home runs and 37 runs driven in, while playing multiple positions in 114 games.

But more so, Rojas is known for his postseason heroics, especially in this past World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Postseason Heroics

The 36-year-old had already been a part of a championship-winning roster in 2024. In that postseason run, he had just two hits in 11 plate appearances. But he shone this past season in the biggest game of his life.

Game seven in the 9th inning, down one run. The kind of situation that young baseball fans play in their heads and act out in the backyard at least once in their life.

Miguel Rojas, the most unlikely hero, delivered by hitting his first postseason home run since 2020 with the Miami Marlins, tying the game and sending it to extra innings.

For a player who had hit 57 career regular-season home runs, this was a huge deal in the eyes of Dodgers fans and baseball fans in general.

The Dodgers would then win the World Series in the 11th inning off a Will Smith home run.

While Rojas was not the World Series MVP, as that would go to pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, he delivered perhaps the most important moment of that series.

What’s Next for Rojas?

After a successful 2025 season with the Dodgers, Rojas and the team will be vying for a third consecutive championship.

With reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani, among a star-studded group of position players and pitchers, Rojas and the team will be in a fine position to do so.

He will likely retain his utility infielder role with the team, with a potential infield of Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Max Muncy and Tommy Edman.

After his professional career, however, he plans to remain in the organization in a front office role, helping in player development, according to Alvarez-Montes.

During the 2026 season, the team will have an insurance plan in case of injury to those aforementioned infielders in the form of Rojas, and an experienced one at that.

Turning 37 in February, Rojas may be due for regression, but coming off a strong season, and with the investment being minor in the grand scheme of things, the Dodgers, at the very least, gain infield depth and veteran experience to the clubhouse.
