Catch up on all of the latest WTA Wimbledon action with Heavy’s day three recap & highlights.
Day three action from SW19 delivered plenty of heart-pounding moments and a number of stunning upsets.
On Centre Court, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka picked up a straight-set win over Marie Bouzková (7-6, 6-4), punching her ticket to the third round despite posting just a 60% first serve percentage.
Centre Court also played host to a high-stakes meeting between 2023 Wimbledon winner Markéta Vondroušová and Emma Raducanu, which saw the local favorite earn a convincing straight-set win (6-3, 6-3), setting the stage for a third-round meeting with Sabalenka.
Wednesday’s action also saw Australian Open winner Madison Keys pick up a dominant straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) over Olga DaniloviÄ over on Court 2, where former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka also earned a convincing win over KateÅina Siniaková (6-3, 6-2).
Additionally, Elina Svitolina, who entered the tournament as the No. 14 seed picked up a big win of her own over on Court 10, defeating Aliaksandra Sasnovich and punching her ticket to a third-round meeting with Elise Mertens on Friday.
Day 3 WTA Upsets: Jasmine Paolini Eliminated in Second Round
Day three of Wimbledon saw several top-seeded players suffer stunning upsets, but none were more surprising than former runner-up Jasmine Paolini’s loss to Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 4-6, 4-6).
Paolini, who entered into the tournament as the No. 4 seed, was eager to make a deep run after coming up short in the finals of Wimbledon 2024, was outplayed by the unseeded Rakhimova in both the second and third sets. The World No. 87 managed to rack up more unforced errors than Paolini in each of the final two sets, however, she still managed to secure her first win over a top-10 player.
Day 3 action also notably saw Croatian standout Donna VekiÄ upset by World No. 101 Cristina BucÅa, who played an outstanding match to claim a straight-set (6-1, 6-3) win on Court 17, while Diane Parry, who entered into this year’s tournament as a qualifier, eliminated No. 12 seed Diana Shnaider.
