The New York Yankees‘ front office has big decisions to make this offseason regarding multiple star players. It starts with outfielder Cody Bellinger, but two high-profile relievers in Devin Williams and Luke Weaver are also free agents. At this moment, it seems more likely that the Yankees would re-sign Weaver rather than Williams. Devin Williams’ tenure in pinstripes did not go so smoothly.
It will be interesting to see what the Yankees do in terms of potentially filling those gaps if they are unable to retain both players. A recent trade idea has the Yankees landing Brewers’ All-Star closer Trevor Megill to be the team’s next closer.

Yankees Trade Idea Lands Trevor Megill
The early reports this offseason have indicated that the Milwaukee Brewers are going to be attempting to cut payroll this offseason, and that may lead to their front office making trades to get ahead of having to pay players.
A recent massive blockbuster trade idea by Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter features the Yankees acquiring Trevor Megill from the Brewers.
“To NYY: RHP Trevor Megill
To MIL: RHP Carlos Lagrange, 1B T.J. Rumfield, RHP Harrison Cohen”
Megill has been one of the best closers in MLB over the past two seasons. Here is what Reuter wrote about his production for the Brewers since 2024:
“Closer Trevor Megill has 51 saves with a 2.60 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 in 98 appearances over the past two seasons, and he was an All-Star for the first time in 2025. He is also projected to earn $4.2 million in his second year of arbitration after making $1.94 million in 2025, which would make him one of the 10 highest paid players on the team.”

Trevor Megill recorded 30 saves in 50 games pitched in 2025, and he posted a 2.49 ERA in 47 innings.
According to BaseballReference.com, Megill is projected to record 15 saves and a 3.57 ERA in 2026. Milwaukee also has Abner Uribe, who seems ready to leap at being the Brewers’ primary closer.

The Yankees Have a Clear Need to Boost Their Relief Corps
The New York Yankees have a clear need to upgrade at the reliever position, especially if they lose both Devin Williams and Luke Weaver.
Williams, similar to Megill, played several seasons with the Brewers before being dealt to New York. Devin Williams posted a 4.79 ERA in 62 innings with the Yankees last season.
Now, if the Yankees were to acquire Trevor Megill, that would fill a much-needed hole and allow the Yankees to focus on other aspects of their offseason.
As the offseason progresses further and further, keep an eye on the Yankees making a steady pursuit to acquire Trevor Megill.
