Yankees-Brewers Trade Idea Sends 2-Time All-Star Starter to the Bronx for Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The New York Yankees are starting to become the subject of a lot of rumors across MLB’s hot stove season. Although Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office have yet to make any big splashes, that doesn’t mean one isn’t coming in the near future.

Recent reports by MLB insiders Bryan Hoch and Jeff Passan suggest that the Yankees have received numerous calls regarding the possibility of a Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade. While the reports don’t mean the Yankees are actively shopping Jazz, Cashman has been on record saying this New York lineup features too many bats, and now might be the perfect time to trade Jazz while his value is high. Bleacher Report recently did a mock trades piece, which included the Yankees landing Freddy Peralta.

Does this Player-Swap Trade Idea Make Sense?

The New York Yankees are known as one of the more aggressive MLB teams when it comes to the offseason, and they’ve made several big trades in the past.

A new trade idea comes from Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer, who mocks that the New York Yankees make a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for starter Freddy Peralta. New York would give the Brewers Jazz Chisholm Jr. in this player-swap deal:

“Trade Proposal: Milwaukee Brewers get 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr.; New York Yankees get RHP Freddy Peralta”

Rymer also explained why this deal might actually work:

“Either Chisholm (to third base) or Turang (to shortstop) could change positions to accommodate this move, though, and it would promise to be worth the Brewers’ while for one reason: home runs. The long ball was their offense’s only weakness in 2025, and that factored into an NLCS sweep by the Dodgers in which they got out-homered 6-to-1.”

Jazz Chisholm Jr. finished 2025 with 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases. However, Yankee Stadium may have helped a lot with those power output numbers, and American Family Field in Milwaukee is much tougher to hit balls out of.

Freddy Peralta Has Been a Certified Ace

Now, the next thing you may be wondering is why the Brewers would want to trade Freddy Peralta, who has been their ace over the past few seasons.

Well, they don’t necessarily want to, but Peralta is entering the final year of team control before he enters free agency, where it’s expected he’ll demand a lucrative contract, and Milwaukee just isn’t a big spender in MLB that will meet him on those demands.

The New York Yankees have popped up in reports of being interested in trading for Peralta, but the asking price is their main concern. A player swap of Peralta and Chisholm might not be enough for Milwaukee, which could also ask for a top prospect in return or a player like Jasson Dominguez.

Peralta is a two-time All-Star coming off his best season in a Brewers uniform. He posted a 2.70 ERA over 176.2 innings, while striking out 204 batters and finishing fifth in NL Cy Young voting.

He has struck out 200+ batters and made 30+ starts in each of the last three seasons, which makes Freddy Peralta the most attractive trade candidate this offseason, if the Brewers are serious about moving off him.
