Yankees Trade Idea Lands 3-Time All-Star, $105 Million Infielder

Everyone around MLB is wondering when the New York Yankees will get going this offseason. It’s been a slow start, and other American League East foes like the Blue Jays, Red Sox, and Orioles are showing a willingness to improve their rosters in much-needed areas.

As with every MLB offseason, New York is expected to be a big spender, but this offseason may be more favorable for the Yankees in the trade market, as there is a plethora of players that can greatly improve any team. One of those players is Arizona Diamondbacks‘ second baseman Ketel Marte, who has garnered trade rumors in the last few weeks.

Massive Trade Idea Lands Ketel Marte on the Yankees

Is this a far-fetched idea? Not according to MLB insider Jim Bowden, who would like to see this massive trade take place at MLB’s winter meetings, which is just a few days away.

The Diamondbacks seem willing to move on from Ketel Marte, but it would take a large haul to get Arizona to agree to a deal.

In Bowden’s “Winter Meeting Wish List”, he’d like to see the Yankees acquire Ketel Marte in exchange for RHP prospect Elmer Rodriguez and Roderick Arias:

“New York then moves Jazz Chisolm to third base and plays Marte at second. Marte reached base at a .376 clip last year with 28 homers. Imagine what he’d do at Yankee Stadium. The D-Backs get back two top prospects and open a spot for Jordan Lawlar on their infield.”

This seems like a fair deal for both sides, and doesn’t necessarily mean that Arizona wouldn’t be able to compete in 2026. They still have two core pieces in Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo. A trade like this may also cost the Yankees an MLB-ready arm like Will Warren.

What Would This Trade Mean for New York?

This trade idea would be a huge splash for the Yankees, who are almost desperate to get back into the offseason arms race with the rest of the division.

Ketel Marte is a three-time All-Star who finished top-3 in NL MVP voting in 2024 after hitting 36 home runs and posting an OPS+ of 154. He’s been an All-Star in back-to-back seasons, and his 2025 season wasn’t too shabby either, hitting 28 home runs in 126 games. As Bowden noted, imagine what that production would look like in Yankee Stadium.

The 32-year-old switch-hitter is in the middle of a six-year, $105 million deal that runs through 2030. He has three consecutive seasons of a 4.4+ bWAR.

As the winter meetings get kicked off in Orlando, the Yankees will be at the forefront of many reports, as those who follow the team will be eager to get the inside scoop on what the team’s offseason plans are.
