Caleb Williams isn’t about to state his choice for where the Bears should play their home games going forward.
The Bears quarterback said Thursday he doesn’t care whether the Bears play in Hammond, Indiana, Arlington Heights, Chicago — or anywhere else.
“I’m going to play wherever there’s 120 by 53⅓ [yards] and it’s marked up with white lines and two end zones,” he said. “I’m OK with whatever. Whatever decision they make is whatever decision they make. I just want some green and my teammates and coaches and another team out there. And fans.”
One week ago, the Bears’ board of directors voted to continue forward with their exploration of building in Hammond — which fell short of being an ironclad commitment to moving across state lines. Bears president/CEO Kevin Warren told Illinois lawmakers he looked forward to continued conversations with them, and Gov. JB Pritzker said he’d call a special legislative session if politicians gain momentum on finding a way to give the team a property tax break.
The Bears have said they consider Arlington Heights, and not Chicago, the only suitable choice in Cook County.
