Oilers Make Room For Roslovic With Big 1-For-1 Trade Pitch

The Edmonton Oilers may have lost their season opener against the Calgary Flames, but they won the Jack Roslovic sweepstakes. At one point, the forward was with the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now, he will join the Oilers on their quest to get this generation of the team their Stanley Cup. For the contract to be made official, something has to give.

Heavy.com has proposed a trade with the Montreal Canadiens to offload forward Adam Henrique. This proposal would address an issue both clubs face with their rosters.

Oilers Acquire:

  • 2026 third-round draft pick

Canadiens Acquire:

This trade would work wonders for both teams. The Oilers free up the cap space to integrate Roslovic without the risk of losing a player on waivers. On the other hand, the Canadiens add a veteran forward who can serve as the team’s second-line center for this year.

In this proposal, the Canadiens add Henrique, 35. The 6-foot, 195 lb forward was initially drafted 82nd overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2008. In 81 games last season, he recorded 27 points, a 55.6 faceoff percentage, and 14:39 in ice time per game.

In return, the Oilers add a third-round pick to their list of assets. They maintain maximum cap flexibility by not accepting a player in return. Adding a draft pick gives them another asset to acquire more talent at the trade deadline.

Edmonton Oilers Love Jack Roslovic

After the Oilers ‘ season-opening loss to the Flames, GM Stan Bowman spoke to the media about signing Roslovic.

We’ve been talking to Jack, going back to the summer,” Bowman revealed to the media on October 8th. “I talked to his new agent about a month ago, maybe five weeks ago. We’ve been in touch the whole time, and I said the same thing to him then that I did the other day, when this picked back up. Which was, we love the player, we don’t have a lot of money to spend right now.”

“So, if he wants to come here and bet on himself and get a chance to play, we’d love to have him.”

Why do the Oilers love Roslovic? Bowman cited two specific reasons.

The one thing we are trying to add to our group is even strength scoring,” Bowman said. “I think that’s something that Jack does really well. We also like his speed. He brings a lot of quickness to his game.”

This was a really unique opportunity to get a player of his calibre without giving up any assets.”

A recent report from RG reveals that the Canadiens want to improve their team during the season. In fact, they have begun the season with only 22 of 23 roster spots filled with their NHL club. They are eager to make a move.

Canadiens are starting the 2025–26 season with 22 men on their active roster, one short of the standard 23,” Marco D’Amico wrote on October 7. “It’s a subtle but telling move—one that hints at a front office focused not just on development and depth, but on financial precision.”

“They’re positioning themselves to be ready to pounce on a trade target that’s made available at any point this season.”

During the summer the Canadiens were chasing a second-line center, but not at the expense of their top prospects. This deal would help them achieve that.

A Word About Those Pesky NMCs

Adam Henrique

GettyShould the Oilers make this trade to clear the way for their new addition?

Henrique is one Oilers forward who possesses a full no-movement clause, which prevents the team from sending him down to the minors or trading him without player permission.

Henrique is beginning his second full season with the Oilers. Since joining the team, his ice time (and role) has been drastically reduced from what he’s grown accustomed to.

His career average ice time per game is 17:27. Last year, Henrique averaged almost three minutes less (14:39).

With his reduced role on the Oilers, would he accept a trade to the Canadiens? He would be used in all situations and give the young players another veteran presence to look up to.

With the Oilers needing to get Roslovic up and running sooner rather than later, a deal like this needs to happen quick.
