
SAN JOSE — A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly striking a man over the head with a metal pole, causing life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Jonathan Nunez, a 30-year-old resident of San Jose, was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Police responded to a disturbance around 10:14 a.m. Saturday near an encampment off the freeway onramp to Highway 101 near Tully Road, authorities said. There, police found that an adult man had been hit on the head with a metal pole.
The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was eventually stabilized.
After identifying Nunez as the suspect in the assault, officers found out that he was also wanted on suspicion of felony vandalism after he allegedly punched a church window during a Christmas Eve service. The incident, which occurred at a place of worship located on the 1300 block of East Santa Clara Street, caused an estimated $20,000 in damages.
