OAKLAND — Three San Francisco boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested in the Tuesday morning carjacking of a woman and an attempted carjacking where the car owner was knocked to the ground and punched and kicked, authorities said.
Additional suspects were being sought in the West Oakland incidents.
About 4:31 a.m. Tuesday a 31-year-old woman had her SUV stolen by several suspects — including one who may have had a firearm — in the 1100 block of 30th Street, authorities said.
The suspects drove from the area in the SUV and two other vehicles.
Moments later, a 55-year-old man who had just parked his car in the 2900 block of Adeline Street and was standing on the sidewalk was attacked by members of the same group, authorities said.
He was knocked to the pavement and was punched and kicked while he was defenseless and had his vehicle keys taken, police said. He later received medical aid for unspecified injuries.
But the suspects, for some reason, fled without taking the vehicle, authorities said.
The stolen SUV was spotted by patrol officers about an hour later at 36th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in the Fruitvale district, police said.
Officers began pursuing the vehicle, which got onto I-880 before exiting near Jack London Square, where it crashed at Second Street and Broadway, authorities said.
Four occupants fled the SUV on foot, and the three boys, two 15 and one 16, were soon arrested. The fourth occupant, as well as the other suspects and the vehicles they were in, were being sought.
The three suspects were booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carjacking, attempted carjacking and assault. Anyone with information may contact investigators at 510-238-3426 or 510-238-3326.
