Tracy McGrady Compares Victor Wembanyama to 5 NBA Legends

The praise never stops coming in for Victor Wembanyama. Between his thunderous dunks, eye-popping handle, limitless shooting range, and uncanny passing ability, players and fans find words alone not enough to describe him.

And that’s just on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he’s already one of the most dominant players in NBA history. He has led the league in blocks each of the last two years and will likely be the betting favorite to win DPOTY until he retires.

Every part of his game has already been compared to legendary players of the past. As the San Antonio Spurs start winning, the comparisons will only gain traction.

Tracy McGrady Compares Victor Wembanyama to 5 Legends

In his first two seasons, Wembanyama dominated, although it was clear that he was a bit raw. His long arms got in his own way. He took some foolish shots. His slender frame allowed him to be overpowered by larger centers.

After spending the summer in the weight room, at Buddhist temples, and training with NBA legends, his game seems to be polished. Add in his natural skills and size, and the league is in trouble.

We are for a treat for the next 10 to hopefully 15 years of seeing something we have never witnessed on the basketball court,” said Tracy McGrady on The Athletic’s NBA Daily podcast.I cannot believe what I’m seeing from this guy.”

T-Mac went on to compare Wembanyama to players who have combined for 69 All-NBA appearances.

“He’s doing everything a guy like myself or Kobe or LeBron or Shaq, he’s mixing everybody’s game into his own, beasting boys down with that shoulder and sitting on a rim like Shaq,” he added. He’s coming down like KD, pulling up for that 3, he’s getting in his mid-range. I’ve never seen anyone have this type of impact on the offensive end and the defensive end. We’re in for a treat. Sit back and watch greatness.”

Victor Wembanyama Is Expected to Take a Leap

Despite Wembanyama’s undeniable talents, the Spurs have yet to play winning basketball with him on the roster.

Apparently, he made strict demands to the front office, asking for more talent around him. The Spurs abided and are now expected to be in the playoff race.

However, Wembanyama won’t be happy unless the Spurs make the postseason outright, missing the play-in game altogether.

Of course, his own health needs to remain top-notch for that to happen. Not everything is on his teammates’ ability to step up. However, after blood clots ended his season early last year, he is in great shape and ready to take the league by storm.

Expect the Spurs to leave a stamp on this season as a turning point.
