Nancy Guthrie Update: Shocking New Details About Investigation Raise Serious Concerns

Nancy Guthrie update

New details about the lead investigator in the Nancy Guthrie case are raising serious concerns.

In the latest episode of “Drop Dead Serious,” Ashleigh Banfield reported that the detective initially leading the high-profile investigation was a “rookie.”

“So we know it was a high-profile case. And who was assigned the spot of lead detective on this high-profile and bewildering case? It was a homicide detective with exactly two years of experience in homicide,” Banfield cited a law enforcement source.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Rookie Detective Initially Led Investigation Report

Banfield emphasized that the Nancy Guthrie case is a high-profile one and argued that experience is crucial to handling it properly.

“I’m sure he’s perfectly lovely, and he may be a very good police officer, right?” Banfield continued. “And he’s got experience as an officer beforehand. Just as a detective, as a homicide detective. Two years. And that’s not to say that he isn’t great. I don’t know that. He could be fantastic.”

The lead detective reportedly stayed on the case for over a month, up until the task force was created.

“Around day 33, we got a task force, which means that for roughly a month, if my law enforcement sources are correct, and they have been all along, you had a two-year rookie at the helm of the Nancy Guthrie homicide case,” Banfield added. “I don’t know about that. I mean, that makes me very uneasy.”

Retired Homicide Detective Weighs In

An insider reportedly confirmed to Banfield that the lead detective is no longer part of the Nancy Guthrie task force, adding that the case was reassigned to somebody else.

Retired Pima County homicide detective Kurt Dabb weighed in on this detail.

“To me, it would have made a lot of sense early in the investigation to bring back former homicide detectives that are still working in the sheriff’s department, albeit in different assignments now,” Dabb told Banfield. “To bring them in to help with the case, knowing full well that the homicide unit was lacking severely in experience investigating homicides. So I was a little bit dismayed, out front.”

Dabb also suggested that there are plenty of retired homicide detectives who could be deputized to come back and help with the case.

“I’m not saying that I would do that, but you know, that is an option and none of those options, as far as I’m aware, you know, were taken,” he added.
